So I finally picked up my bike yesterday, and against my better judgment I went riding in Fontana... I experienced a very sharp learning curve...
When the ground is very wet your tire will accumulate mud turning into very slick wheels. The math is as follows. (no traction + mud) x Downhill (turning)= My fat ass eating a very large amount of mud ... But all was fun... I rode for an hour in Sycamore Canyon this am and kicked my own ass. However the down hill sections are fun!

I understand the excitement of getting a new bike and just having to take it out, but please stay off them muddy trails until they dry somewhat! What happens is the soft ruts you leave, dry out and turn into hard dry ruts that are the perfect size for catching your front wheel.
If you stay on the fireroads, that can be OK, as long as they're composed of decomposed granite or sand, which can take the post-rain traffic. Fortunately, up here in Palmdale, the singletrack is just about all decomposed granite, with very little in the way of mud. Thanks! |

I was mainly on the utility roads in and around Jack Baulik park but I will keep that in mind... When I was at sycamore today the riding was way better, and I didnt crash which is a plus.
