Default VQ and CC bike builds

It seems like most of the LBS have been getting busy with people preparing their bikes for Saturday. So, I was thinking it would be cool to hear about what people are riding for the event. Special parts? New bikes? Maybe some pics and a rundown of what you are riding. Would be helpful to those of us doing it next year (plus its always cool to checkout others rides)

I decided I wanted to try some solo endurance events this year so I built this.

Kona Hei-Hei 29. About 28.7lbs. but with all my comfy heavy stuff on it. I'll snap a better pic soon. So far I'm really diggin' it.

To make up for the fact I haven't done a ride longer than 20 miles since Jan 1st I decided to roll on 29's. So I picked up a used Soma Jucie frame, got some Alex Rims from Jenson & built up a new ride. Had it's first ride on Saturday, & it's sweet.
Managed to switch all the parts over from my 26 hardtail, built the wheels using my 26 hubs. I just picked up a sweet deal on a zoke fork from Singleminded & I had to buy a seat post clamp. I wish I'd put a 34 cog on the rear but hey just make me stronger. I plan to run it as a single speed too, after the CC.

Yes to the Picture Haters I will post some later!!!

Here is my VQ rig. Thought about putting my '07' drivetrain from the Tomac, but I'm pretty confident that all my mechanicals are behind me now.

Riding the Canzo...

Bike weight alone I gained around 6lbs.

But, the good news is I also have a granny gear for the steep climbs on Main Divide (riding slowly has to be better than walking), and when I am in middle-big it's a bigger gear than the Dos (32-34 vs. 28-34 respectively).

Still a light weight wheelset, though.

Also, less fatigue over the miles than on the Dos. The angry inch is better than a HT, but the 4" of VooDoo magic makes me feel better over the miles. At least it did the one training ride I rode it

Not sure about the Dry-X tire that is on it now... I had a few "wash out" feeling moments on Saturday at Fontucky, and it was tacky out there.

Oh yeah, still climbs like a goat, btw.

I built the DOS for CC before I was informed by my company that even though I informed them almost a year ago that I was doing this ride, I had to work that weekend in Chicago. I guess that I need to fill out a vacation request for weekends now as well

Salsa Dos Niner
RS Reba
Race Face Cranks
XTR shiftes/Ft/R DR's
King Hubs/Stans 355's stolen from SS
Stntace Stem
Monkey lite Bars/STR swapmeet
Moots Post
Formula Brakes

I now use it for XC racing and looking to do some 12 or 24 hour stuff in the future..

Good luck out there to all of you

Default It's gonna be an INTENSE ride!

It's just your basic Fox/XO XTR build up. I did build a new XTR/717XC wheelset though. They drop a little over a pound off the bike.

Riding the Epic. Feels pretty sketchy on the downhills but makes up for it everywhere else
Enduro weighs 6lbs more so riding that wasnt an option really.

Mutanoraptor 2.4 on the front
Bonty 2.0 light weight extreme disco turbo deluxe on the back
Smidge over 24lbs. Brain set to uber stiff until UHJ then full soft for the rest of the ride - espeically Trabuco Rd. !

No photo handy, but a quick rundown.

Dean 853 hardtail
Fox 100 rlc
WTB Mutano 2.4 up front
Maxxiss Larsen (TT?) in the back

She is my most comfortable and lightest bike. We've had some great times over the past 8 years and I have little doubt that she'll treat me just as well on Saturday.

**Edit: I still haven't replaced my broken digi cam and found only one photo in my entire stash that included the Dean. Yes, I am a horrible owner.**

Gonna rock the 5 spot for this (no recent pics of it), still working out the tires though...been spending a lot of time on the tires thread and picking peoples brains on this, should have it set up by tonight (finally). Which means then i can then spend the rest of the week tightening, cleaning, lubing, and shaking it down so there's nothing i forgot.
Well, other than stressing until saturday morning!

I'll be riding my new Van Dessel Jersey Devil (4" FS 29er). Fox F29 up front with primarily 2008 XT parts. Wheels are Stan's Arch/XTR with Bontrager Dry X's. Weight is around 28 lbs.

I just built it up last week, but after a confidence inspiring break-in at San Juan this past weekend, I'll be riding this for CC. My roll time to Cocktail Rock was 10 minutes faster than my normal time (with same level of effort). Handling is very neutral - switchbacks were handled with ease, both up and down (except for 2 going up that I can never clean!). The 29" wheels did fantastic on the rocky singletrack.
