Default New Bike Build - Can biking actually cost more than golfing?

darn bike costs are killing me.....i am shocked my wife has not yet left me. Just ordered a new bike Thursday as well though granted, its a replacement but still....my wife is starting to figure me out damnit!!!

Expensive week anyway...upgrade El Rey with some new brakes and with a few mods from its original form, ie, bashguard, new bars, new saddle, new brakes, and of course matching shifter cables I would LIKE to believe the El Rey is done.

Terremoto also finished today and i could not be happier....it is BY FAR my gheyest build ever and God forbid anybody uses the internet that also rides on the trails cuz I am afraid my gheyness will be very obvious

few pics of each....and with a final pic of my (current) Ventana family

Some TerreMoFo pics in its final form

y la familia de Ventana

That's a beautiful family you have there.
But I LOL'd at the "replacement bike" phrase. Of course we all know there's no such thing as a straight trade, but is your wife still buying that line?

lol....pseriously, this time it is TRUE! LOL

i am serious....the GT Xizang single speed is a killer vintage ride but the old school geo is far too uncomfortable for me to get used to. This will literally be a trade so long as I dont upgrade parts the more i discuss them......its funny cuz the gentelmen facilitating this transaction know how weak I am and was laughing when i told him i didnt want to go out of budget on this one but guess what, i dont think i will this time.

The frame is a rare find, especially in virtual new condition so it is useful in a trade with a dealer who has a soft spot for vintage bikes

I did give her a hug Nir and she told me to get lost. She figured since I was trying to show affection I must be up to no good and that I must have done something wrong!

We all live in a world where:
n = x+1
where n is the number of bikes we need and x is the number of bikes we currently own.

Nice rides! Sell your clubs to pay for the upgrades.

who says I get away with it You should see what I have to buy her to keep the peace!

as for big golf balls, perhaps, but if only my real ballz were big my bikes would actually get the rider they deserve. I need a bunch more rides with nintense to learn the ropes of GNAR and I might be ok!

haha, sell my clubs, dont even have any. Ironic thing is that I belong to a country club and only use the ghey place for meals and the pool in the summer!

any by the way, my education is in math and i agree with your formula which explains why we cant stop buying its very well documented

Fo, I'm serious the bikes you put together are like works of art. I don't know where, but a LBS could do real well having you to consult on bike builds. Might offset some of the money you're spending.

Let me ask, have you ever made money on a bike build?

what cost more?

golfing cost is losing your balls in the woods.

keep up those "budget builds" = wife "helps you "lose you balls and no ability to sport wood

Ironically, not when I have sold bikes I did not COMPLETELY spec out myself since I usually do that with patience which in turn lets me end up with a bike that warrants no changes cuz its to my liking entirely. I am fortunate that folks like Chad and Larry at redbarn are more than generous with me every time since I blab enough to get them business.

If I sold my Terremoto I would probably make money but I have no intention to. Probably made a bit on my Rocky Mountain and AT LEAST broke even on my X5. I have not lost tangible money.

I would like to believe (LOL) that my stable is complete but I have heard myself tell myself that many a time.

Truth be told, IMHO, its far better to be patient and pick EVERY SINGLE part yourself when building a bike if you have OCD like me. Getting a bike at what you think is a good deal and then cumulatively adding parts here and there cuz you are not entirely happy is more expensive overall for sure.
