Default What to pack?

So I get my bike tomorrow.... What do you guys suggest I should get for a field repair kit? essentials? CO2 Pump? Regular hand Pump? Multi tools? Which ones ect.

Oh and how essential is a STR Sticker .... I think it could be pretty important

-2 Spare inner tubes
-2 Tire levers
-1 Sticker type patch kit (Park has a good one)
-1 Multi-tool. I like the Topeak Hummer with Chain Breaker
-(1 chain breaker) if your multi tool doesn't have a good one.
-1 Park tire Boot
-1 SRAM master link, and spare chain links (probably 9speed) OR Shimano 9speed speedlinks if you have a Shimano chain
-One mini-pump. Specialized makes a very cool dual tire Pump/Shock Pump. Otherwise, I like the Topeak Pumps.
-A few long Zip ties (hardware store)

If you're going to race, you might peak up a C02 pump and some cartridges.

That's the basics, but there's a thread here somewhere with what people carry in their Camelbacks for longer enduro type rides.

I always carry:
Crank Bros. multitool
SOG multitool (like a Leatherman--knife, pliers, wire cutter, etc.)
spare tube
pump (CO2/manual)
tire levers
extra chain link
brake cable
deraileur hanger
tie-wraps
electrical tape (though duct tape might be better)
lube
money

Some people carry a lot more than this, though all my stuff fits in a fanny pack. Do a search of the forums. I've seen a few similar threads before.

A piece of plastic or rubber that can go between the tube and tire to repair a huge gaping hole in the tire itself.

Yeah, you can use an STR sticker for a tire boot. But for tagging, I recommend florescent spray-paint.

I also recently started caring an extra hanger/dropout since I finally broke one on a ride about two weeks ago....

Default why zip ties?

well, you would be surprised. We went on a training ride with Gene and had TWO derailers break! The zip ties can hold the carnage in place while you get back to your car (for one example)....there are many more ways!

Everything your tools can't fix.

I also carry a roll of electrical tape. You'd be surprised how handy that is.

I've ditched the first aid kit. Here's my reasoning: Anything I can fix with a small first aid kit is probably a small injury that doesn't need immediate attention (cuts, scrapes, etc). Any serious injury that needs immediate attention probably can't be helped by what I have in a first aid kit.

In my small first aid kit I carry enough stuff to cover basic stuff but I also have some things in there that can stop someone or me from bleeding to death. But dont worry I just dont carry it for me I carry it for anyone I ride with or come upon that needs it.

What would fit in a small first aid kit that would keep someone from bleeding to death? I don't consider a tourniquet part of a small first aid kit.

Maybe bleeding to death is a bit much but it will come in handy when the time comes.

That's what all those extra zip ties are for!

That's why I am glad you ride with me on the loop. I may need that first aid kit someday.

Mostly true, unless you're riding with kids.
