My rainy day route
Since the rain is squashing any mountain rides, I decided to get imaginative and created a little loop on our property. We have an acre on a gentle slope and I was able to put together a little bit of fun.
I started on the 16' flatbed trailer at the back edge, upper portion of the property. It's about 2' high at the end. I wheelied off that...  ...cut behind the garage...  ...in between the garage, a shed and an old Jeep...  ...dropped down a 1' high dirt ledge in between two patches of ice plant...   ...up some stairs made out of railroad ties...  ...back in between the garage and the Jeep the other direction...  ...in between 2 sheds...  ...down onto the patio...  ...to a 3 railroad tie skinny...  ...up the paved driveway...  ...down the railroad tie stairs...  ...then back up to a huge dirt mound in the back corner opposite the trailer...  ...up the back side of that...  ...and down the front side...   ...down the paved driveway to jump my kids' BMX ramp...   All in all, I ran it close to 20 times I think. It was actually a little tiring--what with doing it all on my 40+ pound Haro. Getting up the stairs and up the steep driveway out of the saddle on an inefficient bike took the wind out of the ol' lungs after doing 9-10 circuits in a row. It was really fun and with the forecast, looks like I may be working it even more over the next few days.

I smell a fat-tire crit! Every lap you do you have to chug a beer (PBR!) before you can continue. There is no limit to how many laps you can do, it's all based on how well you can ride loaded!

Yeah, it could be a twenty lap race, with the Chug-point(checkpoint) right befor you have to climb the RR ties!

 I asked my wife and she said he's had them since she was little. She said he brought 2 of them over with him from Africa in the '60's (his parents were missionaries and he lived there for awhile). So I'm thinking it's going to be pretty hard to find one now. And, if you do find one, it's not going to be cheap!!

Who ever drops out can wait by the ties and throw beer on the survivors. I'm sure I can come up with some un-orthodox "prizes" for the finishers!

Trust me I know! haha remember I am surrounded by this stuff for a living. I shot a badass D90 about a year ago and fell back in love with them again. I almost purchased one in Moab 3 years ago for 24k but when it came down to it that was much to much for me to spend. I reeeeaaaally wanted it though. They are talking right now about a 2010 Defender making its way back to the states! But Im sure its gonna be out of my price range

Slightly off subject, but since it came up...
I just ran out back and snapped these. The Green "Suburban" looking LR is with my father-in-law out in the desert right now and the pick-up LR is in off-site storage, but here's a few of the Defender. For Foo And Jordan:

I spent a lot of time in one of those as a kid. Nothing but good times would love to have one! Looks like its still in great shape too.
