I guess its down to preference and $. You always want to bling, like xtr over lx but you can still build a nice bike for realitivley cheap.

Jason,
Try these: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/sub/659-Build+Kits.aspx http://wheelworld.com/itemlist.cfm?category=149 You can also call the local bike shops like Adrenaline and The Path and have them put something together for you. How tall are you? I have a spare bike you can borrow/buy.

4x/Ds short travel or Ht bike usally around 100mm in the front 3" in the back bikes are usally really small
DH 1 front chainring 6-9 inches of travel bieks are a little larger then DS or 4x AM usally around 5 or 6 " of travel supped to work for many applications dual or triple front chainrings FR usally around 6- 7 inches of travel dual chainrings, can be pedaled up hill ..slowly. XC 80-120 mm travel FS or HT usally light weight, frames can be carbon, ti , alum, cromo, etc, 26" or 29" wheels , 3 chain rings up front

wow, i am not sure about the travel? that is definately a complicated question...
well, for starters and simplicity... i was thinking about trying out a simple 1 x 9 gear setup? okay, i am going to get some notes down and start a possible build thread... |

first thing first what type of riding are you planning on doing ? General trail stuff ? The fully loop? Oaks?
1x9 isnt always simpler because without the front derailer you pretty much always need a chain guide

mmmm, i see... i was thinking fewer moving parts...
my plans: very easy pavement rides (gettign my girlfriend started), then may be easy dirt (in a few weeks)... but, i would hope to get into some good trails with people on the forum? i have yet to try the fully loop, as i was thinking about trying it in 2 weeks? i think i am most interseted in, trails with a few moderate jumps? may be an all around setup? i noticed bikes can lock out the rear and adjust the travel... so 1 bike can possibly be comfy on alot of terrain.... i guess i will have to go the regular 3 x 9 setup then? i guess i am not set in stone... cause i am just starting out... i am sure everythign can be changed later down the road also... i love this learning experience... |
