Question Computers

How many of you guys use computers to track miles and speed and all the things they track. is it something you should have, im concerned it would fall off on some of the more rough terrain,

i am getting off work right know going for a ride will check the thread in a little bit,

thanks for your replies in advance.

It's not necessary. I started out with a Specialized computer that kinda sucked, got a Cateye Micro Wireless, and now am using a Garmin Edge 305.

The Cateye's are like $35, I think?

Now that I am getting back into shape I use one to track my times and avg speed on rides so I know how much I need to kick it up. Once I get to where I want to be I wont worry about it.

Never had one fall off the bars unless I crash. The mounts are pretty secure.

I use the Cateye Micro Wireless. It doesn't fall off, it doesn't mind a little bit of water, and I've crashed right onto it as evidenced by the scratched up crystal.

The data I consider invaluable is the current speed, distance and elapsed time. Maximum speed is also kinda fun just to see how high you can make it go.

My Specialized Turbo Pro gives me elevation too. But then I was always a stat geek, and like to record everything after a ride. Never fallen off though it doesnt seem to seat as tightly as some others I have used.

I had a 305 last week. I just replaced it with a $15 Planet Bike one. It's not as nice, but it works just as well.

When I first started riding I had a computer that keep track of miles and elevation, it even calculate the percent grade. I found it very usefull in planning rides that would not be over my head. I have not had a bike computer in in over four years. I do use a GPS sometimes but it is more for navagation than keeping tract of miles and elevation gains.

I just think it's nice to see how many miles I've ridden on a ride. Also fun to get the max speed up. Got up to 39.5mph this weekend
