It was a beautiful day here in Kernville. Clear, no wind, and highs in the 70s. This morning I rode Honda 50s around the house with my son and loaded up a truck full of trash and hauled it to the dump (landfill). Just a couple of redneck activities that you city folk miss out on. This afternoon I had a few free hours so I decided to do a little trail work.
If you read my RR from Friday you know I did part of the Keysville Classic XC course. On one section we came upon a new tree fallen across the trail. The tree was a good sized oak. It was heavy enough that 4 of us could not move it. I decided to load up the chainsaw and pedal up to the spot. Of course the tree was on the back side of the loop near the highest point. It couldn't have been right next to the road. I rigged it up and hit the trail. ![]() ![]() ![]() I was going solo and not in any hurry so I messed around with the timer feature on my camera a bit. ![]() ![]() I went for a simple rig. I got a backpack that was just big enough to hold the motor of the saw with the bar sticking out the top. I brought the big saw because the tree was good sized. ![]() With that much weight on my back I could not keep the front wheel on the ground when the climbing got steep. After about 25 minutes of climbing I got to the tree and this is what I saw. ![]() The tree had been moved already. ![]() I looked on the ground and saw that it must have been cleared by riders. ![]() I hauled this saw up here for nothing? I have to cut something. I remembered there was another spot a little higher up that needed some trim work. I got up there and it was taken care of as well. ![]() I couldn't be mad. Someone had taken the time to fix the trail before I did. It was about 4 pm by this time and the light was making the granite glow. I decided to take some pictures. With all the huge rocks this is a spectacular section of trail. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Later I heard that there was a group of 10 or so riders from the SSFTA on the trail doing work that day. That is the group that puts on the race. They beat me by a few hours. Jeff |
