Default Epic

Can anyone tell me how many miles would make an Epic an Epic? I've heard that as long as it was over 24, then it could be considered an epic. If I am wrong, please let me know.

24 sounds good, 24 hours sounds better.

I would say an epic consists more of finding new places and new trails. Getting away from it all and hanging out with your buds. Maybe even getting lost and running out of food....

either a long ride 20miles+, a very difficult/technical ride, or any good or bad ride that will give you stories to tell for the next year...

We did a 18 miles ride from Withing, to O'neill down Arroyo Trabuco back Tijeras Creek and back to Withing. The ride was not difficult, too long but the temperature was about 90 degrees. we had to stop mid way and refill our camelbacks. We still talk about this ride as the "Dead March".

Epic would be something like:

24 miles with 4500+ feet of climbing ( topanga canyon state park rides)

16 miles with 5000+ feet of climbing (sunset ridge starting at Wheeler ave. in La Verne; major, major climbing)

trips like those, it's not just distances that makes an epic ride, but the elvation gain and difficulty of the trip. most XC mountain bike rides that are more than 30 miles are epic.

My brother, friends, and I rode from the Candy shop (Ortega) into Penelton to the beach. We lost the trail or it lost us and ended up walking down a creed with our bikes on our shoulders. No only was it not smart but it wasn't legal either. It is something I still talk about 10 years later. Epic

While living in Lodnon, England I rode to the train station, train got stuck in the rain, so we all had to ride to Oxford for the charity bike ride we were doing. When I got home I had clocked up over 100 miles mostly in the rain!!! EPIC!!!

I meant London... Ooops. Too long living in LA has made me forget!! :-)

dont forget about time factors, it could be a 15 mile ride but take 8 hours to make it back to other humans.
