Default Set 'em up. Rider's ready...My new fully rigid singlespeed

Last year, in my introduction thread, tkblazer and I were dreaming about building a modern BMX bike. Just this last October, I got interested in racing BMX again, so I cleaned up my old '99ish GT and hit the track. It had been over 20 years since I last race BMX and, as a result, I've lost a lot of my coordination. It's been coming back, slowly but surely. After breaking the seatpost on my beloved mid-school GT, I was a little worried about further damaging this prestine collector's item.

So instead of just replacing the seat post, I replaced the bike - piece by piece, starting with the frame. Initially, I picked up the frame and a few parts from Fullerton Bikes, and I swapped a lot of parts over from the GT. Wanting to get the GT back to its former glory, I eventually got all of the parts needed.

Although I haven't ridden the bike with the new wheels, which I just finished lacing, I have spent plenty of time on the track with it - well, with the exception of about a month while my back was hurt. The bike handles incredibly well, and I'm amazed with the slight improvements in geometry from typical mid-school bikes.

Now that the GT is back together, my girlfriend is actually interested in riding at the track.

So with that, here's the new Podium:

Frame: Intense Podium Pro Cruiser
Fork: Bombshell F1 Carbon
Headset: FSA Internal, Campy Style
Headset Spacers: Chris King
Stem: Thomson BMX
Handlebars: S&M Cruiser 5.75 Race Bar
Grips: ODI Ruffian BMX Lock-on
Brake Lever: Shimano STR
Brake: Shimano XTR V-brake
Cranks: Shimano Saint, 175 mm
Chainring: Snap, 41 tooth
Chain: SRAM PC-68
Pedals: Shimano DX PD-M647
Hubs: Chris King BMX
Cog: Chris King SS, 18 tooth
Spokes: DT Competition 14/15
Nipples: DT Aluminum
Rims: Sun Rhyno Lite
Tires: Intense Micro Knobby 1.75F/1.85R
Tubes: Specialized
Seat Post Clamp: Salsa
Seat Post: Thomson
Seat: Serfas w/Ti rails

After my back gets better, I'll lower the stem a bit. It still hurts after doing a few gate starts even at that height.

Good question. I was a bit concerned at first, but I'd seen so many people running Saint cranks so I figured it wouldnt' be too much of a problem. I installed two 2.5 mm spacers on the non-drive side and one 2.5 mm spacer on the drive side of the BB cups. I've seen people put all three spacers on the non-drive side, but that leaves only a couple threads available.
The alignment is off by about 2.5 mm.

You probably already know this but the Shimano DXR crankset will give you a better chainline.

Only if they made it in black...

Yup, I know about the DXRs. However, I didn't care for the silver finish on this build, and I didn't already have them. I picked up a couple sets of Saints on my last trip to Japan before I even thought of building a BMX bike. Also, for no good reason, the DXRs cost quite a bit more!

I went out to Orange on a rather cold evening, didn't really warm up or stretch, then proceeded to do a hard and fast gate start and pulled out my back (or whatever I technically did to it). I felt all but paralyzed, and I couldn't really do anything or ride a bike for a couple weeks.

I realize Shimano is a Japanese company and all but how much cheaper is it over there for Shimano stuff?

It depends on the value of the dollar compared to the yen. When the dollar is doing well, MSRP of Shimano stuff there is about dealer cost here. And I'm hoping the dollar gets better because I'm taking another trip over there next month.

And something I think is kind of funny, you can find Dura-Ace and XTR stuff in department stores! Seriously!
