Anyone see these yet?
I may pick up the Sage for the Stinky. ![]() weight92g size1 1/8in. stack height21mm including crown race flange15mm material440c stainless steel lower preloadaluminum/steel 25g upper bearingssealed 34-ball max lower bearingssealed 34-ball max warranty5 years msrp$130 / €129under license by cane creek cycling components I know all about how great the King sets are, but I REALLY like the Crank Brothers set up; Local - in Laguna Great customer service - anytime I've been in there for something, I've gotten great service! They ride and help maintain our local trails! I've seen the Cobalt headset at The Path, and it look's very cool. There's almost nothing to it! It'd be a little light for the Stinky, but the Sage on the other hand, look's very interesting.

I rode with those guys yesterday, really nice and awesome riders, too. They make a lot of nice products, I'll definitely be buying more of their stuff to support a local business and guys that do a lot of trail work.

looks kewl....nice to see some other good headsets becoming available and in fact, quite a few now. based on my vast knowledge of nothing, i think the Cane Creek 110 is going to be the headset to beat but this "looks" good too
what does the italicized cane creek reference mean? they own the patents. in fact, Kings headsets flaws are in part due to them not licensing some of the important ingredients Last edited by genusmtbkr5 : 02-03-2008 at 12:13 PM. Reason: merged post |

Cane Creek holds the patent for the split compression ring, Crank Bros are smart to use it.

I ran the only King headset I've owned for 5 years, on 4 different frames, and never had any issues with it either. There's a Pink King headset on Lacey's hardtail, and it's solid as a rock. I guess I'll probably go with the Crank Bros this time around (if the Sage is available) just because I like to be a little different, and try new stuff.

If you ride hard Chris King headsets suck. Rather than using a compression ring to center the whole assembly and assure concentricity of all the bearings and the steerer tube, Chris King cheaped out and refuses to pay the Cane Creek licensing fee and instead uses a weak azz o-ring to center the headset. The result is a headset that creaks and binds and requires o-ring replacement regularly to keep it working reasonably well. But they do come in pretty colors.
EDIT; And seriously ALL headsets look simlilar, just because they don't come in pink doesn't mean they are the same. |

Leme see here. I have King headsets on 4 out of 5 bikes and a Cane Creek on one with no trouble at all. OK, the ti one makes a bit of noise on the road bike once in a while. I am sure it matters if either one is installed properly. All that aside I do want to try the Cane Creek 110. |
