Here's another place to protest. I like this one because I actually got the link from the TCA. Evil bastards. the sooner they go out of business, the sooner the 241, 261, the 73, and the 91 carpool lanes will be free.

I fry bigger fish like fresh water supplies and where exactly to dispose of an ever growing mountain of trash generated by our county. But I would like to enjoy these fine trails while they last. Since I have taken my car off the road I could use a ride to check them out and verify all the nice things I have heard. Public transportation is tricky in rural areas, which is why I hitch hiked for the privilege of moving several thousand pounds of rocks into a new retaining wall on the slopes of saddle back after a lonely walk up the hill. Before I am lambasted for not wanting to protect species on the brink of extinction due to loss of habitat, I would ask you to please send rebuttals to a Dr. Darwin in England. Thank you for listening. Disco |

It also make no sense to put a private toll road in public open space. If there is room for 35000 homes, then they can sacrifice a few of them and build the road on that land. |

HAhaha I used their "Support the Toll Road" form to submit my opposition.
This is what I got back: Thank you for supporting the completion of the 241 Toll Road. We strongly encourage you to take a moment to send your comments to the Coastal Commission as snail mail: California Coastal Commission Chairman Patrick Kruer 45 Fremont Street, Ste. 2000 San Francisco, CA 94105 Thank you again for your support. Here was the message sent to the commissioner from you: The extension of the past Oso and the 74 IS NOT going to relieve traffic. There are simply not that many people driving from the Foothill Ranch and Santa Margarita areas south of San Clemente everyday. The majority of I-5 travelers in that are coming to and from the Irvine area. Taking the 241 extension up to the 261, and then south again isn't going to save them time (it's going to cost them money though). The impact to the environment will be permanent. Not amount of off-site mitigation can bring back an utterly and completely destroyed ecosystem. I doubt the disturbance will be limited to the 1 acre they claim. Just the traffic paths in out of the site are more than that. There is still controversy over the existence of steelhead that may run San Mateo Creek. If we put the toll road through trestles, All hope of restoring that ecosystem is gone. The residents of San Clement have not been made fully aware of the impact of being bisected by two "highways" with vehicles traveling at 70mph day and night. This plan only makes sense for people who live in Coto, who want to drive down to Coronado for the weekend. Don't be fooled by all the money behind this project. It (along with the inevitable development of South Orange County) is a poorly thought out idea. If traffic on the I-5 is really the problem, then why doesn't the TCA want to invest in fast-track lanes or an overhead expansion of the I-5? Please oppose the 241 South extension. Sincerest thanks!! Inked. Just moved to OC and discovered San Clemente ST. I put out a thread asking for Ultimate HT STs in OC and I can't believe no one suggested San Clemente.
Anyone know of similar trails around here? (Please don't put anything in Aliso Woods in the same category). EG |

![]() I am not sure which airport it is you speak of. The only one I can think of around here is antiquated and has any future expansion capped by busy super highways at both ends. Not to mention a cap on not only how many flights but also the hours at which planes may operate. Furthermore the toll road will be the central thoroughfare for the planned "Rancho Mission Viejo" project . The residents of Capistrano don't want it in their backyards either however they lack ownership of the developing land in question. I still maintain that putting a public benefit into the hands of a for-profit corporation is a lopsided equation. "the great farce" I am reminded of when we used to build BMX jumps as kids. It would start out with a good crew and fun sessions. Eventually strangers would show up to ride without digging. As time progressed the outsiders trash piled up and offended delicate groups then the fruits of our labor would perish under the blade of a dozer. These are the risks in building on land which you don't personally own. I will say that I still prefer it from a liability standpoint though. ![]() |

I really don't mean to sound like a pessimist here, but I honestly believe it's a forgone conclussion. Some of you have been around to see the newer cities that have been built and there was strong opposition to this too, but money talks and as we all know there is a lot of money in South OC.
Let's keep up the good fight though. We can try and hold them off as long as we can and I seriously believe they won't be able to get it done in the next 20 years. But it will be done.

Thanks Gary. I too couldn't make it tonight due to work. I am trying to get off the 6th but I have big job that I'm in the midst of...and can't easily take a day off.
The important thing is, if you can't make the meeting make sure you write and make your opinion heard to the California Coastal Commission BEFORE THE 6th! And if you want to really make an effect get five others to voice their opinions in writing and/or in person to stop the toll road! KeepsWhatHappens |
