Carla, you would have a blast. The trail offers a different kind of riding. We really never ride faster than 10 mph because of all the ups, downs, and turns. You ride 5 miles and you're winded.

Default Next California Coastal Commission Meeting Set

The next California Coastal Commission meeting date and place have been set. It is on February 6th at the Oceanside City Council Chambers. Arrive by 9am.

Below are two groups spearheading the movement to stop the tollroad. By stopping the toll road we will save San Clemente singletracks and Trestles beach and save San Mateo Creek as the last free-flowing watercourse in southern California.

Please get involved with either of the groups below to get on buses to go down there or let's organize our own caravan. Don't delay! This is our last chance.

Friends of The Foothills
Also don't forget to sign up for the Coastal Commission hearing!* It will be on Wednesday, February 6th at the Oceanside City Council Chambers.* We will provide bus transportation, t-shirts, lunch and signs!* Please RSVP to robin.everett@sierraclub.org or call 949-361-7534.

In addition Governor Schwarzenegger is now for the toll road. So we need to barrage him with letters saying we disagree with him.

You can do that by surfing here where there is a pre-written letter and you just have to fill in your info and hit "send". It will only take 30 seconds and you could be helping to save our precious SCST and Trestles.

Thanks,

Brewmaster, this is exactly what the city of Diamond Bar tried to due about 10-12 years ago. They wanted a bypass to take traffic off of Diamond Bar Blvd.and Grand Ave.through to Chino Hills when the 57fwy.is full during rush hour. The 57-60 interchange was/is called "Blood Alley",by the bypass supporters who also claimed that the cities of Placentia and Yorba Linda were for it(not true). The city tried to push it through without any public comment(the city shot itself in the foot with that action). When this became known, bikers, hikers, equestrians(one of the few times all three have banded together),as well as local residents in Carbon Canyon banded together to stop the project.I was living in Diamond Bar at the time and remember the insults and derision you would recieve if you did not support the bypass. The project was eventually stopped but not without a lot of hard feelings between the city and the CHSP supporters. The park is still threatened as more developement is done on the north boundry and the top of Carbon Canyon.Have you seen how crowded the traffic is on Carbon Canyon Rd.nowdays? It will probobly only get worse. On a side note,I understand that Diamond Bar is still trying to get a bypass built, this time through Tonner Canyon where the old Firestone Boyscout reservation used to be.You might have heard that a consevancy group tried to buy that piece of land for a wildlife corridor running from the Santa Ana mountains, through CHSP,up over the hills between Brea and Diamond Bar,through Schabarrum Park and Turnbull Canyon to Whittier Narrows.A distance of about 40-45 miles.Diamond Bar was not able to buy the property(I'm not sure why),but at the last minute,it seems that City of Industry stepped up and out-bid the conservancy. They wound up buying the property.City of Industry claimed they wanted the land to to insure that they had an adequate water supply even though they are miles from Tonner Canyon, and do not have much use for residential services(they're strictly an industrial city with about 1,000-2,000 permanent residents that the city wishes would leave). The conservancy sued to stop the sale but lost. This happened around 2002-3.Corridor supporters are wondering if there was/is some kind of deal or land swap that will see Diamond Bar getting the property in the near future.Sorry to make this so long but it was the first time my wife and I were involved in such an action. It was exhilarating, mindboggling, and at times so frustrating dealing with a beauracracy that took us for granted. But at least we were able to stop the bypass through CHSP.I also have to give a huge hand to the people who do this kind of advocacy work on a regular basis.I also signed the petition a few days ago,- Lloyd

un-kola-
unfortunately CHSP may have to be fought for again... the Toll Road Authority has its sights on CHSP next, if san onofre goes through and sets a precedent. I found out a couple of years ago they want to continue the 241 past the 91, bisecting CHSP. Not sure if that's still their plan, but it probably is.
