I agree, being seen while being heard is a huge impact. I'd be up for a road trip to support!! Thanks,

Sounds like we should get a group together and carpool the San Diego meeting in Feb.

Let me know what you need from me....

The next California Coastal Commission meeting will be in San Diego on Feb 6, 7 or 8th. As far as I can tell the date is not set yet.

The Surfrider/Save Trestles site is a good place for us to watch and wait for more details.

Default Another way you can help using YouTube....

Saw this posted on a Surfrider Save Trestles Blog last night....

Very Important California Coastal Commission Hearing

In early February, the California Coastal Commission will hear an application for the toll road project. This is THE most important hearing in regards to stopping the toll road and we need hundreds of people to attend. The hearing will take place in San Diego, but the exact date and time has not been set. We will keep you posted.

In the meantime, please take some time to do two things. First, if you haven’t already, send this quick letter to the Coastal Commission? Here is the link:

Then, create a quick You-tube video telling the California Coastal Commission why you want to Save Trestles and San Onofre State Park and upload it to our site: .

Here's what to do:

1) You don't necessarily need a video camera. Most cell phones or still digital cameras will work.

2) Go to www.youtube.com and Create an Account.

3) Once you have created your account, record yourself, family and friends, talking to the Coastal Commission, telling them to Save the Park, Save San Clemente Singletracks and Stop the Toll Road. If they have personal experience with the park, they should include that in their message.

4) Connect your camera or phone to your computer, and save your video to your hard drive.

5) Go to http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_upload

6) Fill out the information regarding your video. To make it easier for others to find, put “San Onofre” in the title, and add San Onofre, sanonofre and Trestles to the space where the site asks for Tags.

7) Click “Browse,” select the video you saved in your computer, and click “Upload Video.”

Go to http://youtube.com/group/savesanonofre. Click the ‘Join This Group” link. Click ‘Add Videos’ and select the video you uploaded!

Done! Is there really enough traffic in that area to even warrant extending the 241? The 73 doesn't even really help that much IMHO.

That's cuz people don't like paying the tolls. That's why the toll road extension doesn't make sense either.

back in my environmental planning days, I saw a traffic study stating that when more lanes are added to a freeway, it causes more congestion initially as people don't know what lane they need to be in and panic

I believe the traffic study was for the widening of I-5 through orange county...

John, once we find out the date of the meeting, how about we organize a group trip to the meeting followed by a ride at SCST?

I'd be willing to take a vacation day from work if this is on a weekday because the last thing we need are more roads and less wild lands. Plus I've never ridden SCST and that needs to change.

it's got to be quite a bit as it's close to $4 to go one way.

tolls, fees and fines:
93,000,000 in 2007
86,000,000 in 2006
(edit: thanks Sam)

2007 audit:

They report in thousands, so it's $93 million in 2007 and $86 million in 2006.

I haven't been back to San Clemente in about a month but the last time I was there I saw a number of folks asking for signatures along T-street. A number of locals are pretty passionate about kicking the toll road project to the curb. (and oh, I did sign earlier, thanks for posting)

Default On top of it..

Seems like this issue, much like the ANWAR debate in Alaska, seems to keep coming around every few weeks or years depending on the issue. Glad to see that so many are on top of it. Toll roads can be a good thing to help control traffic, but this one is proposed for the wrong place. I just signed the petition and will sign it and speak up every time because I bike, surf and want future punks like me to have the same opportunity.
