Default It hurt me deep

So like a dumbass I pulled into Pizza Port in San Clemente with the bikes still attached to the roof of my car. This wouldn't be a problem except for the 7' clearance that my bikes did not clear. It hurt me deep inside to see my beautiful Possom (ok so possoms aren't beautiful nor cute) ripped from my roof, and for me to see the the gash in the door and roof of my car.
Just had to whine

Deusxq and I made that same mistake on the way back from Aliso a long long time ago...funny thing, my Trek bike was perfectly fine but his car and bike rack got dominated. *shrug*

Ouch!
Well, at least you were able to imbibe refreshing beverages of your choice to quell the pangs of sorrow.
Did the Sniffer carpool and suffer the same the fate?

The Sniffer used his magical nostril powers and was spared my fate. Upon leaving with the Possom in shambles curled up in the back seat, we made sure to check for insurance that the Iron Horse would survive the departure under that wretched arch.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Man, this happens all the time. Someone should invent something that'll remind people they have bikes on the roof.

A friend of mine drove his girlfriend's Civic, with the bikes on the roof, into a parking garage in Vail Colorado. The bikes actually cleared the ceiling for a while before he got stuck bad, compressing the suspension on the bikes and the car. He had to take the bike apart to break free. Amazingly, the only badly damaged part was the seat which the local bike shop in Vail gladly replaced for 150% of the normal retail price.

I wonder if he could have let a bit of the air out of his car's tires and freed the bikes?

Hey, brave man for owning up to it.... I gave you your 4th "thanks"...

You are making your mark on this site !

Do what I do and get a Honda Pilot. Then you can stick your bikes inside (well, at least two big ones and a really small one)...

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I've never gotten a roof rack for that exact reason...having said that, I'll probably back my bikes & hitch rack into something one of these days...
And was the "rider down"? Oh yeah, he felt really down, I'm sure. Unsurprisingly beer can be blamed yet again, even tho you didn't drink it yet...you were just fixated on getting to that cold one....right?

It was more a fear that I destroyed my beloved Possom than actual damage that occurred. Turned out to be more of a flesh wound really though the sound of the bike hitting the sign and it hunched over the side of my car like a wounded soldier that scared the crap out of me! It will require some time back at a shop to get things right again, but with the replacement parts already purchased I may have avoided catastrophe. I'm very lucky in that both Sniffer and I are pretty sure the frame hasn't been effected.
As far as the car, a lot of dents and paint damage along side with the need for a lot of duct taping for the racks

Like Downhillphil mentioned, I made this same mistake. Thankfully, only his bike was on the roof at the time. . Regardless, I've switched over to a hitch mount bike rack, so.. maybe you could consider that?
