Is there anybody in socal that rides trials or dabbles? I ride around with some buddies that are pretty good up here in SLO, but i'd like to practice over the summer when im down south.

I try, but some of these things are unfathomable to me. Even the simplest looking things are really hard when you try them

I love watching this stuff. Too chicken, and not dedicated enough to participate though.

I have decided to declare that nobody over the age of 30 is doing this type of riding. Therefore I can consider myself too old to start trying. Yes, thats it.

I'd like to see their "outakes". . . I'm sure they didn't make all those on the first try

I wonder how many bones this guys has broken in his life... and how many gray hairs his mom has (if all her hair hasn't fallen out from the stress).

the cool thing about trials riding is that its a relatively low-impact form of cycling. Most of the stuff you have to work up to out of necessity, and you tend to be forced into riding at your skill level.

for example, you can't fall off of something tall without knowing how to get up that high in the first place (a rather tricky proposition) even when you do fall, its generally easy to ditch, and you're going a low enough speed you can bail pretty safely.

its really fun to do, and it makes you a lot more confident in your balance. Also, you learn how to move around the bike and make the most of the space you have. This translates to better riding through downhills and technical sections.

I've read you gotta start small like off the curbs and then go from there.

How the Hel did he jump up on the two hand rails, with a tire on each one?

the margin for error is crazee

yah, that particular sequence with the handrails and rocks is just crazy. its a real shallow learning curve from what I've seen, but definitely rewarding. took me a full week to learn how to wheelie drop off a curb, and even then i can't do it consistently from a standstill. manuals are the real block for me...
