...or so I've been told.
|
Someone asked me yesterday if I ride "clipless pedals" I said yes I do. He said flat pedals are not clipless... Let me soapbox the stupid term of "clipless". ...everyone (I know) rides clipless now. Pedals that are the derivative of the term "clipless" are the old style basket pedals, so I dunno about you...but I think we're all technically clipless??? However...on my road bike I am clipped in So I think basically...You can clip with clipless, but clips clearly can't clip ![]() Wow I need a nap.

Yeah, "clipless" is not very descriptive, but a lot of words are dumb. "America" is named after some dude who made maps in Italy or somewhere like that!

Maybe someone already said this, but:
The old style pedals had baskets and straps that they called "Toe Clips". Then someone invented pedals that you could snap into, kind of like ski bindings. They did the same thing that the "Toe Clips" did except they did it even better! Since the new pedals didn't need "Clips" they called them "clipless". |

clip refers to the toeclip, that big plastic or metal cradle for your shoe that older pedals had and that some people still cling to.
clipless pedals do not have that toeclip, and your foot is attached by some other means, i.e. a cleat on the bottom of your shoe. flat pedals are not part of either of the two, they are just flat pedals. help? |

How about we call clipless pedals by the name "pedals"? Anything else is a bear trap.

At the end of some forks, there is a fork, to accept the axle. So...some forks have forks so it may be correct in calling them forks when refering to a fork unless it is un-forked at the end then the plural would be incorrect and the singular would apply as fork and not forks.
Unless............

OMG STFU Isn't it obvious that the only sane name for those SPD/ATAC/EggBeater things is "Basketless crank pivots"?
You can't seriously expect me to call them "pedals" when half the time I use them for coasting instead of pedaling! But I guess it doesn't matter, since bicycles are just a fad!
