Default Bikes not sold in the US

You know how sometimes, other countries get some pretty cool cars and cell phones that we don't have access to?

I guess the same applies to bikes. Apparently, the horst link patent is stopping these from being imported.

Their 5.5" trail bike weighs in at a tad under 27 lbs. I dig that derailleur guard too. Pretty cool stuff!

yeah and their DH bike infringes with other suspension patents. so every Lapierre bike model using OST and FPS2 suspension systems are not available here in the US.

you could always get one form a dealer in Canada

I really like their Spicy...

Yeah, those are some sweet looking rides. I have always liked the way their bikes looked ever since I stumbled across a pic of one a few years ago. There are others as well from Italy and I believe Denmark or Germany (I forget, will have to dig up the pics) that are kick ass as well.

The other bike I really like (the idea and look, never rode one) is the Zumbi F44 Ti but they should be coming to the states.

Cove does the samething.Have two models of the same bike, one with a faux bar link for the U.S.and one with a Horst Link for the rest of the world! This way they don't have to pay Specialize's licencing fees.- Lloyd

It's French made....I'm curious. I've seen ads for it in MBA mags. Not this specific one but a different frame which was dubbed as a full suspension hardtail. Interesting concept but I'm not sure if it would work.

Was it this one

same principle that a few companies use where the rear triangle flexed an inch or two. Canondale had one as well.

This is the one I saw in the mag. Shock goes through the bottom tube below the seat of the rear triangle. Never seen anything like it.

MBUK Mag ussaully has ads, and sometimes review of those bad boys. You could possibly order one from a UK shop, but you'd wacked with the exchange rate (making the bike around 40% more).

That blows if you want to lower your seat.

Most patent lawyers worth their salt are smart enough to file their patents in the US, UK, EU, China, Korea, Japan, India, Canada, and Mexico at the very least least. Some go even more broadly than that. There's little point to having a patent only in the US.

Seattle Bike Supply who distributes Redline and Torker, is the US distributor of LaPierre. While I was working there last year we had a few samples in house - but at the time all of the LaPierre sales came out of their Kent, Wa location. Nice bikes indeed.

I think Lee said it best when he said, and I'll paraphrase, [They've got some cool bikes over there, meaning Europe. (Lee on the Bio bikes)

There's some serious companies over there that most people haven't heard of that are awesome!

Identiti Bikes, DMR, Dialled Bikes, RAM, Orange, FLOW, Revell, and Spank to name a few.

And you're right-check out the MBUK and peep their ads. I can tell you from experience though, they're some nice rigs.

Not Cove, Devinci (really nice bikes!)

How does Chumba get away from the FSR patent? or do they pay it?
