Shop question

I would have put this in the market place but the site will not let me post there.

It has been awhile since I have had to deal with local shops other then the ones I regularly frequent soooo . . .

I am looking for a new rig and have narrowed it down to two bikes a Norco A-Line Park Edition or a ScottUSA Gambler. I am trying to find a shop to deal with if I get the Gambler. With that said . . .

If someone could give me input on a few shops (or recommend a good Scott dealer that fits what I like in a shop) I would appreciate it. My main concerns in order (will give names of shops after)

1)customer service, willingness to work AND listen to the customer

2)Price - I am willing to pay a little more for better service except for places like Helen's and Agura Cycles because the last time I was in either of those shops the prices on after market parts were through the roof compared to other shops. (Maybe that has changed)

3) parts in stock or willing to order after market parts in a timely manner, granted this depends on the suppliers inventory but I usually know if they have something in stock or not before I have the item ordered.

Now, the shops in question;

Bicycle Johns - Burntbank or Northridge

Bike Warrior - Tarzana

Bikeology - Torrance (was there not one in Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys)

If you do not feel comfortable stating your opinion of the shops mentioned publicly then please drop me a PM.

I would be willing to make a trip to San Diego, Santa Barbra or anywhere in between.

why not The Path? there's been nothing but good reviews of this shop on here. I think they're even a scott dealer, but they also might have some other suggestions for bikes that fit your needs.

awesome customer service, and heck, a few of the guys even post on here from time to time.

Never heard of any of them.

The only place I have recall ever having seen a Scott bike in the store was Beyond Bikes in SD.

Ladera Cyclery in Ladera Ranch carries Scott.

JensonUSA in Corona is a Scott dealer. Not quite in your neck of the woods, but they are an outstanding shop to deal with. Call them and you will see.

I checked their site and there was no mention of Scott, I will give 'em a call though to double check. As for other suggestion for a bike, I have been riding long enough to know what I want and I know there are bikes that have the same type of "ride" that the Norco and Scott have but those are the two I narrowed it down to. Once I find a few bikes I really feel comfortable on I then decide which one appeals to me the most when just hanging on the wall.

Ladera Ranch is inland/south orange county, near ranch santa margarita. if you've ridden san juan, it's close to that....as the crow flies.

Go to Bike Warrior, its close to you and Ray is a good guy. He will hook you up. Scott is one of their biggest lines in the store. I guarantee he will give you a better price then Bicycle John's. Then there is always Jensons, but that is a little further away from you.

Respecting that you want shops in your area, I can only comment on the Bikeology in Torrance. I work nearby there, and so I occasionally go by there for simple small parts. In short, other than one sales guy and a younger kid working there, they are complete idiots. The shop has very little usefulness, unless you're looking for a beach cruiser or $299 Trek. If there is one near you, I hope it's a lot better. I would not even consider buying a high-end bike from this shop in Torrance.

An example, I was looking at buying Shimano SP-41 derailleur cable housing. I wanted the best housing Shimano has to offer. Most of the guys in there said there is absolutely no difference in performance between the generic bulk housing, or even the SP-40, to the SP-41. They said that it's all the same. They are obviously not a performance-oriented shop. I believe The Path as well as some other high-end shops only use SP-41 because they know there is a difference (so does Shimano, which is why the SP-41 housing comes with XTR and Dura-Ace components). Another guy in there thought I was totally stupid for racing DH with a TLD D2 helmet. He says they're totally worthless, and he would never use a carbon fiber helmet (although he doesn't even ride DH).

Cheers all, I talked with Ray at Bike Warrior and definitely seems like a good guy AND they have both the Gambler DH10 and DH20 in stock so I am heading down there tonight. Plus the price of the 20 is less then MSRP which is a plus.
