Default Wheels built by "Juan" from Irvine Bike Source?

Does anybody know what happened to Juan from Irvine Bike Source? I know I know... that was like 10 years ago.

I think he may have worked at one of the Jax shops for a while as well.

He might be done with the whole wheel building thing by now but I thought I'd give it a shot.

If you have any info I would greatly appreciate it.

Yep, worked with Juan for a few years. He built me a set of CK "discotechs" on whatever the killer Mavic DH rim of 1999 was.

Seriously though, I raced that set of wheels for three seasons and know for a fact that he has some kind of voodoo, or magic dust, or super special secret sauce that he uses when he builds those things.

Sure do... I remember just about everybody that ever worked there. I was there for quite a few years off and on and then continued to work for Jim at Adrenaline several years later.

Most of those guys call me "McMini"

Is he still at the Bike Co. ?

I remember Juan.

He started my wheelbuilding training back at the Source - very good guy, and a heck of a wheel builder.

Tani??? For real... that's rad because Juan is the gosh darn man. I think he would be getting up there in age now. His hands used to bother him back then.

Default Wonder who sold me

my Manitou 4 in 1996, back then the Bike Source had the prices around. Still have that massive travel fork (2 " of plush elastomer) on my old bike.

Last time I spoke to him was a couple of years back, his son was racing pretty hard, and Juan was running a bike shop in Guadalajara, or at least somewhere in central Mexico!

OK how many of us worked at Bike Source? I was there for 3 months or so right before John and Sage left to start the bike co...

I was there for 3 or 4 months.....can't even begin to think of what year that would have been. I worked the sales side in the room full of phones and computers.

If I never see another Barracuda XXFX or ProFlex Beast it'll be too soon.

TOO funny. Those Baracuda's were such a pain to build, crappy ZZYZX fork and all. Wow, I had pushed those memories of that place aside. I like to remember the initial shipment of 20 Foes "SLAMMERS" that came in, or the first SUPER T forks that nobody else in the country had... or Scott Thompsons girlfriend Tanya!

For me the classic guy was Sage. I love that guy. I think he still has a peice of the co and works there part time.

Thanks to Jon for talking me out of a URT Fisher Y bike and into something from Canadia.

Yep, Sage is still around. He hides from the general public in the back, wrenching on stuff.

Whatever happened to Jon the "Dutch Boy"?

Those guys all taught me a lot about sales and bicycles!

The Adrenaline ads in the mags look a lot like the old Irvine Bike source ones? Coincidence? Maybe there's a story behind the shop I missed out on.

No, it's not a coincidence at all. Jim Lacey was the original owner of Bike Source and now he owns and runs Adrenaline. GREAT GUY... I'd go back to work for Jim any day if I was looking to get a job in the bicycle world again.
