I am looking to shave some additional weight from my Nomad, I have gone through most of the easy parts, wheels, tires, stems, etc, with some weight drops. I am currently at ~35# with a fox 5.0 coil. I love the coil feel and would "like" to stay with it. I can get a Ti coil for about $150, about $70 off msrp, is it worth it?
Alternatively, I have heard good things about the fox 5.0 air, anybody have one they can spare to test? ![]() |

Wether or not it's worth it is up to you. You won't notice the weight savings, but you do get to say " it weighs 34.5lbs". If that's worth 150.00 to you, then do it.

Ti springs are worthwhile IMO if you are light-weight, can afford them, and are racing.
Otherwise? Probably not. |

its just a novelty with almost negligible weight savings....
Youre in the "I spent hundreds of dollars to lose less than a pound of weight" category

It depends on your values. If you like coil springs and light weight, and you have the $, you may want a ti spring. It depends on the spring length and spring rate how much you weight you lose. I lost around 190 grams with a ti spring on my sunday. It gets more expensive to lose weight the more you have already lost. From some points of view, 2-3 hundred dollars to lose between 1/4 and 1/2 pound is a bad value. From other points of view, it is a steel.
I just got my Sunday down to 35.75 pounds for this last race. The ti spring definteley helped. |

BTW, I went to coil with a Ti spring but haven't gotten a ride yet (darn rain). If nothing else, it looks good. ![]() |

I think coil is the way to go, after riding coil and air I notice the air doesn't have the sensitivity Im looking for in a shock. So my Chumba XCL may get a coil in the near future.
and a spring for 150 give or take is a great price considering I would have to spend 300 for mines.
