Default Mt. Lion on Sullivan Canyon (L.A.)

Hi all. On Tuesday night a buddy of mine and I rode up Sullivan Canyon and back down via Jedi and the fireroad. About half way down, my friend stopped up ahead of me and started shining his light up the hillside about 30 yards off the fireroad. We stood there trying to figure out what it was we were looking at when two big glowing eyes looked back at us! We thought it might be a bobcat at first but got a good look at a large mountain lion when it got up and slowly wandered off into the darkness. Truly an amazing sight and one I never expected to see so close to civilization in the Santa Monicas.

Wow I would have crapped my shorts! There are lots of big kitty sightings in that area I believe. What time of night was this at?

I think we saw him around 10pm. Yeah, if I'd been solo I probably would have freaked!

I forgot the website, but they have 3 or 4 that are collared with radio type or GPS transponders to keep an eye on them. I remember watching the trail of one and it literally was jumping through peoples yards. A friend of mine that lives in Brentwood had his German Shepard snatched out of his backyrad one summer evening by a cougar. It made the news also.

You don't have to worry, no decent mountain lion would ever touch your leathery arse.

It is scary but you are one of the chosen lucky few. In all my years riding, I've seen one...briefly.

We rode up Sulli Canyon and back down Jedi and the fireroad. Saw him after the first section of Jedi.
