San Simeon State Park - They'd probably give it back to the Hearst Family.

That was my thought. Of course the mansion wasn't on the list. I think that place makes good $$$ for the state.

I don't buy that list as the final solution: I think it's the first stone thrown in what will be a major political fight between the gov, the state senate, and a number of the most powerful unions and interest groups in the state.

I've thought about it more lately because living in CA is getting crappier by the minute. Even if you earned a 6 figure income, it's nearly impossible to support a family plus own a home. Not to thread jack, but what Arnold is doing and how the many past presidents have screwed CA has me thinking about moving to places like Oregon, Arizona, and possibly the E.C.

If something like this were to go through I don't suppose the state park parking pass cost will be lowered to accommodate lesser access to the parks...??? I wonder what the domino effect would be for other related items in conjuction with closures?

I can see the lifeguard minimization and maybe the campgrounds (even though I don't like the idea) due to monetary issues but how can you completely close a park - do you have to develop it?

i do not think that chino hill s.p. was mentioned on a npr report i heard about this idea. right now, it is just that, an idea.

i did hear topanga was on the list, that would suck.

i think these closures would save the state of california some $14 million...a VERY small drop in the buck in the state's fiscal crisis.

+10,000 thanks, northshore!

It's one of the reasons I want to move back east too.

I lived in AZ...it's not so bad, though home prices have gone up A LOT since there has been so much flight from it's western neighbor.

Oregon...now that's a prospect but it's too damn cloudy near the coast and some areas (i.e. Bend) are getting way overpopulated.

If you ever go to Fruita/Grand Junction that'll probably end up being on your list as well. Justin and Denny have it near the top of their "move to" lists! With your jobs.. it may even be feasible for you guys.

True.

Didn't they own all that land until they turned it over to the state. I know the Hearst Family has a home and a private air strip on the grounds still.

Hey now. Let's not put all the blame on poor people/economic refugees- many who have been here for decades paying taxes (propping up Social Security with billions), but using a disproportionate amount of services. If you put them all on "an island" our economy would implode. I think most of the current problems are due to arnold starting lots of expensive programs at a time when Washington has us heading into a recession.

I don't think that was who anyone was blaming. There was a mention of people who don't pay taxes.

OK. let's be careful here. Non-citizens (like me) pay the same taxes as you do. Maybe you are referring to illegal aliens... And even they pay some taxes. Sales taxes are paid by everybody, and those taxes go to the state.
We could argue all day long about the pros and cons of immigration, and I believe there are good points on both sides of the argument. Let's just make sure we get our facts straight.

You're mixing up one problem with another. The idea was to put prisoners on an island. Not anyone else. And, I'm pretty sure it was typed in jest.

Um, CA was broke long before Arnold came along.

I don't recall saying anything about immigrants here that are paying taxes and working. I worked at an immigration law firm for more than 3 years. I've got *nothing* against those that are here through the system (as screwed up, expensive, and time consuming as it is).
