Steer tube length

Can anyone tell me how to measure the steer tube of a fork or how I can tell how long I need? Besides this measurement are there any other measurements I'd need to look for a different fork? Thanks

You need to measure the length of your bike's head tube. Then add the stack height of your headset, the height of the stem you plan on using as well as any spacers you want to run.

Add that all together and that's the minimum length steerer tube your fork needs.

The steerer tube is measured from the end of the tube itself to the fork's crown, where the tube and crown meet.

If you are looking at new forks don't worry about it you will most likely need to cut the tube anyway. On your bike you measure from the top of the fork crown to your steering tube top cap, which will be close enough. If I had good Photoshop skills I would give you a visual.
