I don't take my dog out this time of year. Too much hassle.

Is this tick season or should be aware of this for the rest of the year? This is my first year mountain biking so I was never really aware of the ticks being gone. Gonna have to hit up REI for some repellant.

I pulled one off my dog after a hike at Black Mountain (Rancho Bernardo) Saturday. It had already embedded, and it looked like it hurt.

I'm going biking there this week, maybe I'll throw on some repellant beforehand now...

After solid research I've found there are a lot of ticks in Emerald Canyon vs other parts of LCWP.

Beat the rain on Wed with a Emerald run, and the ticks were thick down there. Previously I've only ever gotten ticks from Emerald --not Dear, which would be logical, but Emerald. Oh and Emerald was emerald green. It's great having Winter again.

Same here. I'd assume that it's because Emerald is remote, leading to more wildlife.

It does not get cold enough in the coastal cities and valleys so ticks are prevalent year round but more so during spring and summer. They also hang out on brush from ground level to about 6'.

Also, if you stop close enough to some brush they will drop onto you even if you do not touch the brush.

They should make a Frontline/TopSpot type of product for humans other then DEET.

I shave so I havn't worried about ticks. Glad, cause I have no idea what to look for.

I wouldn't have thought that shaving would completely eliminate the tick threat. They can stick to clothing and crawl down the neck or up inside the shorts! A friend of mine got a tick embedded in the middle of his back (and I don't think he has a hairy back)

They could probably cling to moisture on the skin too, the pesky little bar stewards

there have been 265,000 cases in the us since 1990 all of 2,221 in cali

only deer ticks carry the bacteria and they have to go through a whole feeding cycle to infect you which usually takes 36-48 hours

so as long as you do a check after you ride you should be ok...

but i did ride san clam a few days ago and got some ticks on me the majority of which were deer ticks so just be carefull
