piece of advice:

a- get some all thread and 8 washers and 8 nuts that fit said all-thread.
b- you need enough to span both your rear dropouts and fork dropouts.
c- cut said all thread to match your dropouts.
d- thread as follows: nut-washer-washer-nut ob both sides of one piece of all-thread.
e- put them in in your dropouts with the dropout being in between the washers as listed above. the whole sandwich will be:
nut-washer-dropout-washer-nut (large space between) nut-washer-d.o.-washer-nut.

now dont tighten them down so much that your d.o. moves.

voila! instant dropout protectors! now the gorilla baggage handlers can't do as much damage to your beloved steed!

Hey I heard on IMBA that if you make airline reservations through them you won't have to pay for overfreight cahrge? I do think they have a link that has you fly with Southwest Airlines.

I have FF miles with US Airway and I think they charge overbaggage fee. I would rather use US Airway rather than SW. Southwest sucks but if they don't charge me overfreight charge then I would have to go with them.

i dont know about that- I know that if you flash your USA Tri membership they will make you pay- why? a few tri-geeks abused the "bike flies free" coupon (read: color copies)

if you're really nice to the person at the counter, you might luck out. I have when i flew 2x with mine. but, it's best to have some $ just in case (can be up to $40 each way)

call ahead- it's likely your best bet.

out of curiosity, where you headed? sometimes FedEx ground can be cheap even with insurance. it just takes a week for a bike to get from here to portland, or. (my experience)

Default I have two bike bags...

I have a couple bike travel bags that I would be willing to loan ya. The wife and I have used them to get our bikes to Sedona and back (when we lived in Indiana) and did not have an issue. They did charge us the bulk baggage though. let me know if you are interested.

I am going to vegas, although it may rain out their this weekend. I did some research and Southwest will not charge you if under 50lbs I think I am safe on that one. I usually fly US Air but thye charge for me to bring bike, 80 bones each way. Forget that noise
