Default Out with the old

And in with the new. Unloaded the Niner Sir9 frame and picked up a Voodoo Dambala. Also The Path built up a new set of wheels.

Frame Voodoo Dambala (STEEL)

Fork: Reba Race with remote lockout (tried and true)
Rims: Stan’s Arch
Front hub: Hope
Tires: Bonti XR’s
Rear hub: Chris King new 2008 ISO design
Cog: Niner
Cranks: XT 180mm (also tried and true)
Post: Thomson
Pedals: Time (yep also tried and true)

The main reason to get rid of the Niner was that damn EBB. The Voodoo uses sliders. In the next few weeks I plan on the following changes:
  • DT Swiss 9mm Through bolt for the front wheel (On order at The Path).
  • Thomson Stem (as soon as I can decide on the length and rise).
  • Carbon Bars (not sure what to get).
Building bikes is fun

Plan on taking it out Thursday for a night ride (if it does not rain).

I had to get a taller crown race for the Reba to fit so it changed the geo a bit. May need to lower the fork to 80mm if it steers too slow

Bummer on the Niner EBB. Leslie's never had trouble with hers. As for bars...the Syncros Bulk are pretty cool. Tani uses them on his DH bike, I use 'em on my SS.

I also like the Easton DH bars, I had those on my Turner and my last SS.

Leave the fork at 100mm!

p.s. I'm so surprised by that sweet looking seatpost on the new bike!

I like those bars! They look really wide.

My back is much better so I am only going to break out the Thuddy on the rough trails.

Have you seen the new King ISO hubs

Hey DeeZee, sweet new ride. My buddy just built a Steel Voodoo SS. He rode it on the Project Rwanda ride. I tried it out for a couple miles. The thing rode really smooth for a hardtail. The last hardtail I rode was aluminum and it was really harsh.

Looks like my SS King Hub I bought two years ago, what is the difference with the new hub? I am guessing no more disk adaptor.

The new version is (I think) only 50g more. Also this hub only cost me $175 (long story)

Isn't amazing how the slightest difference in the geometery can make a bike feel so much different? At first glance, someone would say "Why?", but looking at it with a bikers eye you can pick out the differences. Both are really nice, but I lean towards the VooDoo.

DeeZee, what gearing are you running? I used to run 32/20 on a 29er but I have some Enos w/ a 34 and Im not sure what to put on the back.

Also, I really liked the Salsa Pro Moto 11 deg sweep bar. Im tempted to try the 17 deg (I think its a little longer) on my soon to be new build, but I hated the mary bars, so the 17s might be too much.

Thats a looking great bike, Im interested in the ride report to see how you would compare it to the Niner.

long rides with hills I run a 32/22. For shorter rides 32/20. Thanks for the tips on the bars. I was tempted to try the mary's but never did.

I really liked the way the Niner handled and think the geo is spot on. The EBB was my only gripe.
