Default Illegal trails at Daley Ranch

Saw an earlier thread on this so I drove on down to see myself. Walked a few miles there yesterday. Saw no less than 4 trails cut by horse in the first couple miles. Not including the switchback cuts made by horse. Saw one posted closed trail ( a very real trail appearently not worth maintaining , but tractor cut at one time) with a single sort of new bike track.

Are the MTBr's being singled out as the only violators here ?
By my count (small sample) all new trails have been cut by horse.

Side note , why do the dog owners have to pick up shat if the horse owners don't ? I don't want to see either littered on a public trail.

MTBers are often the scape-goat for many things. It's obvious from the fliers the Daley Ranch rangers posted that they are saying it's MTBers. It always seems as if horses can do no wrong and I don't get it.

Do I need to go back and swamp the net with photo evidence?

You'd be doing the entire community a favor by taking photo evidence of horse shoes dug into the illegal trails.

The "Friends of Daley Ranch" organization is not particularily friends of us mountain bikers IMO. These trails that are being developed often are new entrances into the park. There has been new developments going in near the perimeters of the ranch for the last few years and those people paid good money to live there. They are not to interested in driving 20 plus minutes to get to the current authorized trailheads when their property nearly butts up against the ranch.

I have seen this countless times, (Pacman, I know you have seen this out at the SMaRT) equestrains typically think they can walk their animals wherever they like. At Daley Ranch my observations have been that the equestrians typically do the first off-trail travel. Part of this is their attitude plus the fact they are typically elevated up above most of the nasty brush and they wear some form of long/riding pants. We would get ripped to shreds trying to go through most of that stuff at Daley. So the equestrains illegally punch a hole through the stuff and the hikers and bikers will soon go to investigate and follow the line. There are no less than half a dozen illegal trails that have come and gone out at Daley that I have watched develop over the years.

We are no angels either, but it is certainly BS to try and make us the scapegoats out there.
