When I joined STR, I lived in Fallbrook, which is north SD county. We then bought a house in San Jacinto because we couldn't afford SD at the time. I kept my job in Vista and my wife kept hers in Fallbrook. My parents still lived in Fallbrook, my kids attend private school there and we still had lots of ties to the area, hence me doing 99.99% of my riding in San Diego.
With gas prices constantly rising and the commute constantly getting longer due to new home construction along the way, we decided it was time to move closer to work. My family and I recently moved from San Jacinto to Ramona, which is in east SD county, not far from San Diego. My in-laws live here and my wife grew up here. We live on the same street as her parents--which is a good thing. They are good people and I get along with them--sometimes better than my own parents. We live out in the San Diego Country Estates and I know from previous experience that there are lots of trails in the area. Along the roads there's singletrack behind the trees. Fireroads and singletrack in the hills, etc. Well, I just got back from a bit of reconnoitering and the possibilties are endless. There's the previously mentioned singletrack and fireroads that go as far as I could see, all over the hills in the area. There's rock features to play around on. Dirt easements between houses connecting different paths and trails--all within 10 seconds of my front door. Looks like I have my work cut out for me. Thank goodness for the GPS to map it out and the camera to take pics.
