Started mountain biking in 82 to add some cross training to my running routine, and turned solely to mounting biking in 86.

Hell, I have two bikes older than some of the riders here. Makes me feel ancient

uh, there's nowhere to vote for if you've been biking for more than five years?? I started in 88 when I was in high school. The first trail I ever rode was San Juan, and it was on this $200 Performance full rigid. I remember my brother missing one of the switchbacks and tumbling down the side of the hill with his bike flying after him, hehe. I'll never forget that first ride!

The dad taught me to ride a bike whenI was 4. Since then I have never not owned at least one bike. Raced BMX when I was a kid. Always used bikes as my main form of transpo (heck, I didn't even own a car till I was like 22). Began seriously mountain biking in 93ish. Never really raced mountain bikes much. Back in the early 90's some of us Whittier locals used to run races in Turnbull Canyon. XC and DH. Of course back then we were running DH on hardtail and fully rigid bikes.

I was pretty into road bikes all through high school and college. Then I just stopped riding for a good 5 years or so and decided I wanted to get a mountain bike. Bought a full suspension Diamback and was totally hooked. It wasn't 6 months before I bought my Foes frame and built that up.....with a few more bikes to follow. Been riding for almost 4 years now.

Default Years

I started out as a Roadie back in 89, when I was about 12 years old. Purchased my first road bike, a Raleigh Grand Prix. I did the Roadie thing until HS. Then I was too cool to be wearing tights. Got myself a GF and a VW Van, sold the bike in 96.

Was reintroduced into bike riding by a friend that got into Mtb. He pulled up in his Specialized Enduro and I pulled up with my Mongoose (ridgid). Rode the Fullerton Loop, and was hooked. But it wasn't until later was when I bought my Gary Fisher. Now I'm sportin' a Giant Warp.

Now I've been a Trail Fanatic for about 2 years.

(sorry for my bio... )

Ancient? A wise man once told me, "Age is like a good wine, the older the better."

JamR, your experience alone is a great contribution to the Forum. I know all of us could only wish to still be riding years from now. Nothing but RESPECT for your JamR, keep riding!

Started in '91. Had to stop for various medical reasons in '01. Back at it this January.

Put on about 30lbs during the hiatus, 15 of which are now gone. It felt like I was starting at square one; no lungs, no legs. Not yet back to where I was but plan to ready for Moab later this year.

Started riding seriously about 4 years ago. I got the weight down about 40 lb.
Still not skinny or fast, but I'm having a heck of a good time.

Got my first XC bike in Jan '02, my first FR bike in AUG '02, and my first DH bike in May '03.

I started getting into MTBing because I could no longer skateboard like I used to after a car accident. Man, I was DEFINATELY hooked after riding Holy Jim!

Started in '88 - I did a lot of road riding on my ole Diamondback. I even gave up the car for about a year. At least a 14 mile commute everyday.
Off road was Fully Loop and the Carbon Canyon area of Chino Hills.
I got married in '92 and was surfing more than anything. The bike collected dust in the garage.
In 2000 I was planning a backpack trip with some friends and started riding to get in shape. I realized how much I missed biking and haven't stopped since.
