Got any food?
![]() |
Lots of cool threads going on under GD but I hope a few of you can give me some fork advice real quick. I'm trying to finalize the build of my new bike.
Recommendations for light 4" XC please. I don't even know what's out there these days. When I get some names and opinions, I will then do more research on what you have suggested. Thanks!

if you're looking for 100mm fork then here are some options:

The new sid has a 100 mm setting and it's alot stiffer than the previous years. That's prolly your lightest bet. If you're not worried too much about weight you can never go wrong with fox, F100

Does my weight make a difference on fork performance? I'm 142.
By 'stiff' I assume that means less flex in turns?

If your going between 20 and 30 mph around a turn you'll notice more or less flex in the forks. It's mainly when you stand to crank hard. SID world cup is where it's at if you got the dough otherwise F100.
and 142 is an awsome weight, don't have to worry about flex at all. I weigh 150 and have last years SID and there is minimal flex. They made it much stiffer this year

If you plan to race xc then I would sway toward new SID, if you just want to ride, then fox f100 or Marz.. Just my $o.o2 Erik

2008 Magura Durin Race 100mm 3.30 lbs
(32mm stanchions, Dynamic Lock Out (maintains sag), Dual arches, multiple colors. ) 2008 Fox F100RLC 3.38 lbs (32mm stanchions, classic fox plushness) 2008 SID WC 3.1lbs (28mm stanchions, carbon fiber steertube, dual air chambers) Personally I would go with the Magura or the Fox. I never liked the dual air system that RS uses. For the type of money they want for the SID WC you could lose 0.2 pounds elsewhere on the bike for cheaper. (The SID team weighs 3.25 lbs) Plus with a carbon fiber steer tube I question durability in the RS. The Magura is going to be stiffer than the Fox but the Fox has low speed compression dampening. Oh, and the Magura has a remote lockout option too. If you are a sponsored pro level rider who must have the lightest race only rig out there then go for the SID World Cup, otherwise, I'd advise against it. |

My thoughts too. Also how much control do you want over the fork? Do you need or are used to rebound, compression control and lockout? Marz has has a reputation for set it and forget it while Fox is more expensive you have more control of whats going on. I went with the Fox Talas when I built my Superlight and while I spent more on a fork than I would have liked I had zero problems with it.

Or you might even consider the 80. I'm looking to do the same thing on my ss.

I want it to carve a tight single track and I don't want it to feel all wiggly and flexy! I want it light because I'm trying to keep the bike about 24 lbs. but I don't want to risk safety! Someday I may race again. Maybe for my 60th! I also travel alot with my bike and do alllll sorts of terrain! Does that help? How's this...on my Fox whatever on my Superlight. I rarely touch the knobs! I am not a knob toucher! You guys have been great!

I think the Reba would be a good fork for you. Stiffer than SID, but still relatively lightweight. It has a lockout. It sounds like you wouldn't want to mess with adjustable travel, so don't get that model. Quite a few people claim they're more reliable / less maintenance than a Fox. That's why I put one on my Epic, and I'm very happy with it.

Ok, I have an old RS Judy elastomer fork that I will sell to you. You can truly set it and forget it because there really isn't anything to set. Just think: 1.5" of sweet travel.
