Default so... i forgot i was clipped in.

i was coming to a slow stop... this, the 1st day of my future of riding clipless... and it completely slipped my mind that i was attatched to the white mallets i had recently installed.

TIMBERRR!!!

you may wonder, if a 238lb man falls over on his bike in the woods, does he make a sound?

the answer is: yes.

he is also super embarrassed.

At least you didn't fall into the rose bushes in front of the neighbors house with about 5 kids watching and .

Yup, remember it like it was yesterday. This actually happened 13 years ago. Now, I never ride without clipping in.

Hang in there. It gets alot easier when you don't have to think about it.

Don't feel bad. The first day I rode clipless, I decided it would be a good idea to ride on the trail. Needless to say, over I went right into a brush pile. Actually had to have someone I was riding with come down and unclip one of my feet so I could stand up.

I'm sure everyone on this board has a story similar to yours. If they don't their lying.

to getting it out of the way early.....

Too funny, I did the same thing about 2 weeks ago riding the Fullerton Loop with my new clip-ins. I came to a stop at the Euclid St crossing, forgot I was clipped in and tipped right over. I still have the scab on my left knee to prove it. The worst thing was that about 30 cars were going by right when it happened and it seemed that I couldn't become unclipped because my leg was stuck under the bike. It totally sucked.

First time I rode clipless was on the San Juan trail with a few friends; first time on San Juan as well (my nemisis).

Yep, I remember EVERY time I stopped to rejoin the group. Being that I had just started riding, I arrived after all the others, so they all were witness to my stylish and graceful tipping over...

Always better with witnesses

As with the others, now I never ride unless I'm clipped in (or falling)--it does get better.

words of advice...

-loosen the tension on the pedals if possible
-don't forget your clipped when there's exposure on either side

I think I saw that... And the crowd applauds.:clap :

I've been lucky enough to not have done this, but what I have learned by watching so many others do this is that you shouldn't fight it. Once you realize you're going to fall, accept it. The more you fight it, the more it will hurt.

ah, the infamous "horizontal track stand". very nice. one advantage? there's a good chance that you took all the damage and your bike received none.

the above comment about loosening the spring tension on the pedals is a fine suggestion.

I think my latest topple was at Interbike (I must've looked like an idiot).

In my defense, I literally couldn't clip out! One of the screws from my cleats fell out somewhere during the day, so my cleat was just turning around in circles loose.

Justin tried to get my foot out and my ankle just twisted around.

One of the first times I used clipless, I fell over on the road on Cape Cod. Talk about embarrassing...every driver at the intersection got to see it...luckily I was just slowing down/stopping to wait at the light and I got up just fine.

I haven't met anyone yet that didn't have the same issue the first couple of weeks, but after that it becomes natural to unclip.

It's true art when you can do the same thing on platforms with no clips/straps.
