First of all, I assure you Allison, that you are far more fit than I am. Secondly, my body just doesn't carry the extra weight well. It always packs onto my arms, waist and face. I have always looked and felt my fittest when at @120 pounds. Plus, I'm an actor and my 139 pounds shows up as 150 pounds on camera. Way too heavy for my shortish height. I mostly get hired for commercials, and believe me, Kellogg's and Johnson & Co. don't want a 150 pound woman selling Special K or Swiffer. Crappy but true.
My weight directly affects my livelihood, unfortunately,
and I have noticed a direct correlation to my weight and how much I work as an actor. And I'd like to have a great year and book a lot in 2008!

weighed myself last night after having dinner with Neil and Traci's family.... i'm 5'9 and a sexy 194 lb. i'm not in it for money or bragging rights, i'm using this "challenge" as a motivator for a lifestyle change. To live healthy, be a stronger rider and person. good luck to everyone! i think we all will end up big losers!

Okay, so what is everyone having for dinner tonight??

We had chicken breasts marinated in Stubbs chicken marinade last night, and I ate wayyy too much Pasta Roni

Tonight I'm thinking turkey chili fully spiced up by me.

And no alcohol.

Tilapia sauteed with olive oil, lemon and capers, steamed broccoli and cauliflower and a big-a$$ salad with garbanzo beans.

Not sure about dinner yet but for breakfast I had...

2 hard boiled egg whites.
1 serving of Quaker Oats with a dab of honey
1 banana

Contrast that with what I made for breakfast yesterday for my kids (and a little for me)...

Scrambled eggs beat with 1% milk, garlic salt and black pepper
Farmer John Sausages
Potato's cooked with onions and bell peppers with cooking oil
white toast

This is a new years day tradition for my kids and they always look forward to it so I couldn't let them down. I'll still cook certain things for them that I won't eat but they will. Not fair for them. Saying that, I never stock any soda in my house and keep plenty of fruits for them to snack on. I do a pretty good job of avoiding junk foods and red meat. It's the carbs that usually get me. I love bread and portions, which both are no-no's.

Just be sure to pace yourself people it didnt go on overnight so dont expect it to come off overnight. If you do too much too quickly you can crash and rebound worse. Losing weight is healthy but losing 10lbs a week is not.

Don't get too excited or bummed about short term swings either way. You can go up or down 3-4 pounds daily on fluids alone. Weigh yourself at the same time of day and really only look at the weekly/monthly results

Congrats on all of you going for this. It is very doable. Its not that easy but not that hard. Change of diet+lots of exercise and just add a heaping dose of motivation. Easier to do with someone joining you in some way and you all got a butt load of motivation in this group

Wife quit smoking and I dropped 85 lbs last year. We started at the same time. Both have maintained for 16 months now

Amazing how your appearance can change. She doesn't mind looking at me now and its nice to kiss her and not seem like I'm licking an ashtray

I didn't start the New Year so well. I had such a Hangover that I didn't want to do anything except sit on the couch. No weight loss that way.

Now I need to play catch up. I haven't rode in about 3 weeks now, with a trip to China, getting sick coming back from China, and Christmas.

HAHAHA! Is that considered a violation of the honor system? LOL!

Healthy weight loss is about 0.5-2 lbs a week. Of course your first few weeks will probably be a little more than that due to water weight. Remember that in order to lose 1 lb you must have a deficit of 3500 calories (either through inputing less and/or expending more through exercise, 1 lb = 3500 calories). =)

1 gram of fat = 9 calories
1g of alcohol = 7 calories
1g of protein = 4 calories
1g of carbohydrates = 4 calories

Hey does anyone have a suggestion for the "afternoon slump" at work, besides caffeine? I am always super motivated in the morning, at the gym after work and at night but right in the afternoon at work about 1-2 hours before I get to leave I get sluggish and somewhat lose motivation/will to go to the gym. I usually just drink coffee but it makes it harder to sleep at night consuming caffeine around 3-4pm (not to mention caffeine is a diuretic). Any tips would help!
