My favorite lunch out is at El Pollo Loco... I get a Chicken Breast (not on menu.. just ask for it "a la carte") and a small Garden Salad with Light Italian dressing. It is about a 300 calorie meal if you ditch the chicken skin.

Despite a reputation for using healthy, fresh ingredients, Chipot*le's menu is limited to king-size burritos, overstuffed tacos, and gigantic salads —all of which lead to a humongous waistline.
The bowl without cheese and sourcream is probably not even half that bad. I *never* get sour cream, which is what they are using for that for the most part.

Dude...that's awesome! Losing the chicken skin is the key. Once you get used to not having it, you'll never need to eat it again!

EPL also has an awesome Chicken tortilla soup.. its a bit high on sodium but the key is to not slurp up all the juice.. It is full of awesome veggies and chicken.. you can leave off the cheese and the tortilla strips if you are being really strict.. I dont remember the exact calorie count but I believe the small soup is less than 200 cal. And to top it off it is some of the best tasting soup I have have ever had.. Eat up!

Sour cream and cheese aside, the reason why it's high in calories is portion size. You really can't mess up chicken, beans, and rice (unless of course the tortilla has lard in it).

Make Over the Menu:

There are two ways to make a Chipotle burrito healthy enough to eat:

(1) 86 the rice and tortilla and request your meat, vegetables, and beans served in a bowl, or
(2) Bring a friend and saw the burrito in half.

Skinny: 2008 STR Weight-Loss Challenge: 1/1/08 = 307.5 lbs | 1/8/08 = 298 lbs

Holy crap, dude. You're killin' it!!!

By the way, at the Crazy Clucker, I like the two-piece meal (breast and wing; avoid the skin except on the wing, which is too tasy to pass up) with the steamed veggies and plain (not refried) pinto beans. I get extra salsa and allow myself half a flour tortilla, then chuck the rest. If i'm feeling indulgent i'll also order a small side salad and throw more salsa on that. Good eatin' that i don't need to feel too guilty about.

Thanks, its just the begining.. I am on fire right now.. just need to keep up the mental game and stay on track. Count calories and heat high quality foods every 3 hours. Excercise daily.. sometimes 2x/day. In addition to mtb I also do mixed martial arts a minimum of 2x/week. (if you have seen a guy with a black eye on the trail this past week it was me )

I've been doing really well weight-wise this week just by bringing lunch everyday. I actually feel like I am eating too many calories, but my weight itself isn't showing that. About 3 more lbs and I'll be pretty satisfied with my weight. If I continue training/racing I may even drop 6lbs from now, which would be my lightest weight since I got married

No Chipotle for me, I guess

Will be eating Subway for lunch on Saturday, but if I stay away from the oil & vinegar and fattening chips I'll be okay.

I have been changing my food intake in a few ways:

*no cheese (ugh, this is so hard cuz I love it but it's getting easier)

*smaller portions/measuring things out...not calorie counting but it makes me think about what I am eating

*even more fruit/veg than before (and I already eat a lot of them)

I have also started back up with a more dedicated lifting session (2x a week). Watch out cuz the guns are gonna come out!! Also, I am now doing yoga when I wake up and go to bed. It's not really easy waking up 20 minutes earlier but I have felt so much better. Rodney Yee = great yoga!!

I'm hoping that small changes will make a difference. My weight tends to fluctuate a lot but I am usually the same average over a long period of time. I'd like to get down below 140.

P.S. Allison, I'll share your burrito with you

I think the math is off on that Chipotle burrito:

7 grams of fat = 63 calories
125 grams of carbs = 500 calories

That leaves 616 calories to arrive at the grand total of 1,179. This would necessitate 154 grams of protein in that bad boy, which would be impressive, but is highly doubtful.

I'll bet its the fat content that's off!!!

It should probably be over 20g fat I think.

I saw today that they have a meal with a skinless chicken breast, fresh vegatables and a garden salad. It's a special request but the one by my work had the meal on the menu. Just beware the salad dressing.

The grams of protein and fat in that burrito are probably about even. My best estimate is 50-60 grams of each.

I like Flamebroiler myself. Mostly, Chicken, Beef and Veggie Rice Bowls. If you want to cut the carbs they have brown rice as an option, or no rice just meet and veggies.

At 400-500 calories for the bowls it's not that bad. Taste good too, but a tad salty.

Default Anyone else hit a bump in the road?

Sounds like some of us are doing great, while I've hit a miserable bump in the road...

I've spent the last week discovering the exotic disease shingles. For those who don't know (I didn't), it's chicken pox, Part 2.

Apparently once you get chicken pox, the virus never leaves your body. It lies dormant, waiting for your immune system to let its guard down. Then it travels along a nerve and erupts through your nerve endings, leaving a blistering rash and searing pain, like something out of a bad sci-fi movie. Plus you get fever, exhaustion, headache, etc.

It appears in just one nerve area - in my case, it picked the right side of my face. Under my right eye it's swollen, bruised and rashed, my nose is crusty rashed, and the worst part is the searing pain in my teeth. The nerve in that section goes through my right top teeth and ends on my right front tooth. Aaarrrrggghhh!!!!!!

So much for exercise and biking... At least I haven't been eating that much, but it's going to take a lot more than that to drop pounds.

Hope next week is better!
