Yeah but 4 oz of red wine only has about 80 calories. Compare that to a margarita or some other drink with lots o' sugar and it doesn't sound so bad.

A third a bottle of wine is 170 calories or so - that's a huge glass, too. Paired with 100 calories of steamed veggies ... you are looking at a light dinner. A shot of bicardi is 50 cals and low-carb. Liquor only kills your diet when you pig out while you're drinking.

Instead of frozen yogurt from the store, I buy organic vanilla whole milk yogurt (it has fat but enough to make me feel satisfied by a small quantity). Then, I put it in a 1/2 cup plastic container and throw it in the freezer when I get to work. It tastes great!
I do the same thing with the dark chocolate! Lots of antioxidants as well (same with red wine).

I like Golden Spoon's frozen yogurt ... they actually use real yogurt and yogurt cultures instead of just powder and water.

Here Justin calls me an alchy.. but I'm not arguing that I have to drink it every night.

Funny that some of you won't drink coffee or regular cow milk, but you'll have wine every night.

So I can keep drinking my Jack as long as I put down the Pop-Tarts?

A bottle of Guinness draught is 125 calories.

Default first weight update

cutting the beer to the minimum ( I had 3 over the weekend) and bringing lunches at work seemed to work for me. When I ate out this weekend I had blacken fish on a salad with dressing on the side. We ate in all week, it's easier to control what I eat if I cook it.

Anyway, I am down 4lb, 46 to go

Default Prizes

Just thinking out loud here, but i'm having second thoughts about how we should award the prizes. Here's the mix right now:

$267 bike shop gift cert. for 1st place
Santa Cruz Chameleon frame also for 1st place
$10 for 2nd place (donation by caveman)

Here's my concern: If someone from the cash contest wins the overall, he or she takes both the cash and the frame, while 2nd place just gets the 10 clams. Here's the change I propose:

1st place: Gets choice of the gift cert. OR the Chameleon if he or she is entered in the cash contest (if the winner isn't entered in the cash contest, that person gets the Chameleon)
2nd place: Gets whichever of the top prizes is left over
3rd place: Gets the 10 bucks caveman donated

I know this is changing things midstream, but when Switchback donated the Chameleon, i didn't think things through very well. This just seems like a good way to spread the prizes around a bit more. Anyone have an objection to this plan? Let me know. Thanks.

Shoot, now Im not gonna be getting the frame and the cash . It's a little dissapointing, but seriously I think the winner wins just by losing so much weight and being healthier the rest is just perks.

Anyways despite recomendations on here not to I signed up for a cycling class for pe and it turns out to be spinning. All I have to say is "holy crap it's hard". Normally on the mtb you just sit as you climb, but the "professor" had us doing "jumps", "jogs", and uphill sprints. Since it is a two hour class since it's in winter mid session we are spending half the 2 hours weight lifting too. I swear I am going to be so fit. This is going to definatly be a life long change.

BTW I am down 12 pounds, just 6 more to go and I'm out of the 200's.

Anything you decide is fine with me. It's not like I intend to win anyway. It's hard to believe that EVERYONE else could be a bigger slacker than me. Good luck.

Something I'd like to add - be aware of the glycemic index of the snack you're eating. If you're hungry and eat something with a high glycemic loading you're blood sugar can rise and drop sharply making you suddenly very hungry because your body cant use the energy it jsut took in. This effects some more than others but worth noting because it can greatly influence your hunger and mood.

True - but red wine has proven health benefits! I think that's a good reason to keep it around!

I'm allergic to cow's milk, that's why I don't drink it. It's also very congesting, at least it is for me. Still LOVE my nonfat yogurt though!

I haven't drank milk for about 18 years, and I don't miss it at all. It congests me too.
I'll have a little with a brownie on occas., and use it for cooking, but that's about it.
In HS, I used to drain a ½ gallon a day.

I was told that people (like me) who can't tolerate cheese or other dairy products made from cow's milk can tolerate goat's milk. Never tried goat's milk but I have had goat cheese and don't have any problems with that.

So does everything, if you find the right study.

I love wine, but am staying away from it for now. I just think it's humorous that some people talk about not putting certain stuff into their bodies, but then can't skip out on alcohol (a highly addictive drug in its own right).

This seems fine as long as it does not counter the intention of switchback on the donated frame. If they want the frame as a prize for the overall winner then that should be upheld. It was generous of them to donate the frame and they're intent shouldn't be altered.

Just my 2 cents.
