Default Trainer Questions

Who has a trainer either rollers or a stationary trainer.
What are your likes and your dislikes about your trainer.
I am going to pick one up this weekend maybe.
I want the fluid resistance type I think for either one .
Rollers are better I think but they take up a lot of space.

I have a cheapie magnetic stationary one that I found and have been using in the garage.
It's boring, but safer than battling cars at night.
If I were to buy one I would get a fluid one, with a remote resistance control.
I think rollers are supposed to be best, because you work on balance muscles along with pedaling muscles.
My neighbor hung his up vertically in the garage - It didn't take up that much space.
I like to have something to watch, a drink, a towel and a fan.

I have the Performance Travel Trac brand alloy rollers. They fold and are cheap.

$109 right now. They really help with form.

There's no breeze to take away the sweat, so you need a towel covering the bars and top tube.

Rollers - non-adjustable wheelbase fits only my older bike.

I would rather ride my Singlespeed on the pavement in the rain, before I would get on a trainer. Luckly I have a great gravel road climb behind my house and I like to ride in the rain. Lots of good pavement climbs here in Laguna. In fact I will be hitting the paved path along Newport Coast today and riding down all the beach assess roads to get some climbing.

When looking for a trainer a couple years ago, my lbs allowed me to take home several trainers to test including fluid trainers from Blackburn and Cycle-Ops.

We were looking for one that would be quiet so that it wouldn't be a distraction for everyone else in the house. The type and size of tire makes all the difference in the world when it comes to noise.

After trying different tires and trying them both upstairs in a wood frame house and downstairs on carpet over concrete slab, the quietest one (surprisingly) turned out to be the Minoura Hyper-Mag. Other mag trainers were a bit louder (not much) than the fluid trainers, but for some odd reason, this particular one was not.

Other things to look for are weight and how the trainer sits on the ground. If you are going to use it to warm up at races (highly recommended if you race), you want to make sure it can be stable on less than perfect ground.

And, if it doesn't come with one, get an old school type chrome skewer to use in it so you don't chew up your fancier ones that may not set perfectly in the clamps.

I bought a roller trainer for when I broke my collar bone. Worked great and kept me in somewhat in shape(nothing can really sub for actual riding). Mine folds up in half as well. I also have a trainer(Cycleops) that I brought into work for when I do commute in on my CX bike. I used it to when we have a slow night at work.

Looked into these last year. Fluid trainers definetly the best. Came down for me to Cycle-Ops & Kurt Kinetic. Read alot about leakage in Cycle-Ops, so picked up the Kinetic

Ride in early AM Mon-Fri while still dark. Read the paper, spread it around as I finish a section, soaks up all the juice from my shweaty bod

Trainer is beefy, very stable. Just change resistance with the bikes gears. Read the reviews on Amazon

Little more $ than most, but like many things, you get what you pay for
