I'd go for it. I'm sitting at 200 and could use some motivation to hit the 175 mark

I will also go for it, no money need to be involved, just honor system and pictures don't lie. I'm sitting at 212 lbs, 5'10" and will love to go under 190 lbs.

Hey, why not? I lost 45 pounds a couple of years ago but I gained a lot of it back after I started school. I might actually be the fattest STR'er at this point--around 275 or so. I don't necessarily feel the need to be part of the competition, but I could definitely use the support network.

1st off, you might consider cutting down on the tacos.

this is true but I think we are looking at it in a health POV, 5 pounds of muscles is way healthier than 5 pounds of fat...so I think the "contest" for the lack of a better word needs to be defined. its it a weight loss thing(this is not always healthy if you are losing muscle mass)? a get healthy thing? a fat burn thing...I think this is where we all have to decide...I personally would like it to be a fat % thing, where we all lose body fat because that's healthier then just dropping LB's(because it could be muscle)

We're within a few pounds. I was 272 at last weigh. I smell a challenge.

I'm also down for this....I tipped 205 the other day and need/want to get back to 180/185...was already planning on it after xmas so the "bet" will make it more fun...I think we could do some weigh ins at a couple of the LBS....lets say have the Path be 1 location...Jenson another...and that should cover the OC/IE peeps...that way there could be an impartial person making sure work boots etc aren't being worn....acceptable clothing weight would be riding shorts and shirts ONLY...if initial weigh in is w/ lycra shorts then final weigh in is w/ same....same goes for mtb baggie shorts...

Giving birth doesn't count as actually "losing weight"

or did you have a tape worm

either way congrates on your loss

Oh fine do this now after I lost all my weight. I've lost 20 pounds since this time last year, which represents a 13.3% loss. I doubt I can do that much again between Jan 1 and April 1.

I don't think we need to get too caught up in formal weigh-ins at designated locations. Sure, all home scales will be a bit different, but i think "close enough for government work" applies here. I would urge a couple minor ground rules, however: Do your initial and final weigh-ins at roughly the same time of day. And do them in the same type of clothing ... whether that be in your skivvies, in the buff, or in all your DH gear. Again, don't be a cheatin' bastidge.

Take pictures of what everyone's wearing, because unless you all want to weigh-in in speedos you gotta account for that. For the final weigh in they gotta wear the same clothes exactly.

I know a guy who did this for work, and padded his initial weight by wearing heavy work boots and stuff.

I know winning is not the point, but I'm just saying that now that you guys are making "credits" part of the contest it's gonna get competitive.

You should just have the 3 top finishers be the finalists. And decide the real winner with a beer drinking, or hot wing eating contest, or most climbs up 3 Biatches decide the overall winner. Like they do for the Singlespeed Worlds.
Here's my opinions based on the contest I was in earlier this year. Once again, just one jerk's opinion. I don't plan on entering, I'm just trying to help.

You guys need to use the same scale for everyone and eliminate the error from scale to scale variation. As long as you always weigh yourself on the same scale it doesn't matter that the scales are different. Total loss is still total loss.

Take pictures of what everyone's wearing. It goes without saying that this is all pretty much going to be "honor's system" rules. Just take a pic of the scale reading when you weigh in and go with that.

I know a guy who did this for work, and padded his initial weight by wearing heavy work boots and stuff. See above.

Using your home scale would be fine as long as you use the same scale for both weigh ins, that way it is an accurate measurement of change.

I have some calipers to measure body fat%, we could do a big STR ride sometime in beginning of Jan and take measurements. I think % of body fat lost would be a better way to go.

By the way count me in, I need this.

My parents used to do this with other couples.
The couple that lost the least amount had to buy dinner for all the other couples after the last weigh off.

I'm out for this; although my gut and head are still grossly enlarged, I'm now down within 10 pounds of my ideal weight (lost 17 since last x-mas), and anyone who's fought the weight loss battle knows the last 10 is the hardest to get off.
