Sometimes I like to commute to work on the road bike just to mix things up a bit. When I arrive to work in the morning I used to store my bike inside one my dept storage units, out of sight and out of mind. I also store my MTB bike there for after work rides. My boss then proceeds to inform me that I can no longer keep my bike inside the storage room because he wants to keep that room locked up and "controlled". He asks me on how I would feel about keeping my bike locked to a bike rack outside. I informed him that I am really not interested in keeping my bike outside due to the fact that we have had many car brake-ins in our parking lot. I also informed my boss that my bike is not a Wal Mart, K Mart or a Iron Horse bike and the bikes I ride are fairly expensive.
So the other day I parked my bike in our product burn in room. This room is perfect because nobody goes in that room except for twice a year. He catches me putting my bike in the room and proceeds to tell my other boss to inform me that he wants the bike out of the burn in room . I proceeded to write my boss a email/letter last Thursday asking where he would like me to store my bike and informing my him my bike's are not a "wal mart" bike. I explained to him on many benifts their are to riding your bike to work. I also informed him that other people from other depts. including upper mangement ride and store their bikes inside the building. The letter I wrote was very professional and I wrote it to him first out of respect rather than byassing him and going staright to HR. I still have not heard anything from him yet (not even a hey I got your email and I am looking into it) so I went to my other boss to ask if she could ask him about my letter and what I should do? She really did not give me a straight answer except this is a fight that you will loose and it could cost you your job. I feel sorry for my other boss because she has to do this guy's dirty work. My boss has a personal beef with me. People in my dept fear him and he notorious for going to HR and ratting on other personal from other depts. I am one of the few people that don't fear him, I respect that he is my boss and I follows his own personal rules that he wants in his dept but I cannot budge on my bike. At this time we don't even have a bike rack at our building. In reality my boss is a "do a as I say not do as I do" type of boss. This guys brings in personal electronic items for out techs to troubleshoot and work on, he buys illeagal fireworks in the back of our building, takes more time off than the President of the United States, swears at people when he is P.O. the list goes on on on. I know I will not win this battle but I will not be a slave to my job. I want to make a point any ideas or comments? I plan on riding my bike to work tommorow morning and locking it up directly in front of my building to the flag pole. I know HR will say something about my bike and then I will inform them how I tried to be proactive on storing my bike. Thanks for reading reading, and all comments and ideas welcomed.

I say you get a big F350 4X4 lifted on big rubber and park it right in that guys parking space. lol
Guys like him (and the puke owner's kid I used to work with) are why I have my own shop. Trust me, not much feels better then telling your boss he's fired. His day will come. |

Doood the funny thing is he has a big azz raised F250 and a lifted Jeep Wrangler. I think he is trying to make up for something. One time I was leaving work on my road bike and he pulled right up to me while waiting for a light and says "ha ha ha you wanna race" and starts revving his engine. I just made a fake laugh at him and proceed to ask how many gallons of gas did he just waste revving his truck engine like that.

document his actions all the things that break company handbook/policies...when you accumulate enough bury him w/ HR but have a job lined up before u do that though
![]() HR will and has to address this as him being a manager can expose the company in a bad situation from a legal standpoint |

The first things that come to mind include firearms, sharpened steel, bamboo shoots, pliers, soldiering irons, dental floss and marshmallows.
aside from that, just go to HR and have them write up a policy for the company. how stupid your boss is. If your company issues a newsletter or has a website they can use you as a "green" write up. think of the pub as they display that they encourage biking to work. your boss is a massive tool with an small intellect. go to HR.

First things first:
Keep a detailed log of everything that occurs regarding this problem. Include date, time, people involved, location and events that transpired. Try to do this retroactively as best as possible from your memory. Include text of emails and responses. This is critical information not only to make your case to HR, but to give to a judge should this end in an abrupt way. Second: Keep fighting. Don't get angry or upset, just remain calm and keep taking your notes. |

Its funny too because this guy is a harcore Marboro Reds smoker, and it is funny because here at my work we have a no smoking policy. This guy has major nic fit and I know he sneeks off to go grab a smoke. He comes back smelling like Lysol.

Get a total beater truck and park it uncomfortably close to his truck every day.
Make it to where he has to climb out the passengers side of his small wang compensation ride. Then every day make him jump start it and leave by driving over the planters in revers because it takes a while for your forward gears to warm up. ![]() Oh and make sure it smokes out the whole parking lot. That always helps.Naw just kidding get his but on a bike maybe and show him that it is better. |

Hey Foo, this is why I emailed him the letter. It seems to me he has no interest in addressing this in a document format. I informed my other boss that I want a explanation and that I wanted it to be written.

Personally, getting the explanation in writing is a better approach. Especially if there is no current policy that prohibits bikes from being inside the workplace. My company fortunately allows employees to bring their bikes inside the building, the only bad thing is that my boss knows when I leave early. bert |

kidding- Duan is correct here- you riding your bike to work should be commended. you getting more "ammo" against this dolt gives you a better chance of keeping your job and he losing his.

I think that is why his boss wants the bike outside...so boss man won't have to cover it if it gets stolen...make sure you have insurance of your own if you park it outside...feel for you on this one..it amazes me that there are still companies out there not interested in "going green". Go to HR and state your case...what if you didn't have a choice and had to ride your bike to work and it got stolen..you might |
