Default Memorable Moments of 2007

This has been quite a "memorable" year for many of us! Some good... some not so good. If you have a memory from this past year that you would like to share (however small or insignificant) here's your chance. It doesn't even have to be biking related.

How you discovered STR. Happiness (or awkwardness) of your first group ride. How your new BEST FRIEND just happens to be a person you met on an STR ride. Graduating college. Landing your dream job. Getting engaged. Getting Married. Memory of your first night ride. Losing 100 pounds on a bike. Quitting smoking (for the 7th time). First STR Ride with your DAUGHTER! A pic of your kid riding WITHOUT training wheels. Finished 105th at the 2007 Counting Coup. Allison may want to post a pic (or two) taken at the top of MAMMOTH! Ahh Yeah! Someone may have given you stuff for free (Thanks StevieB). My goal is to archive as many memories in one thread as I can. May be fun to look back at them in 2012.

If you are a Lurker- This is your chance to become famous!!! Anything you enjoyed reading? Anything you learned? Any trails you want to ride? You hate Iron Horse? You hate me? It is your goal in 2008 to join us on a group ride (in Mammoth, at Noble, at Kernville). Say something!!!

Feel free to post as many times as you wish. The more we have.... the cooler it will be!

Thank You in advance!

dude- I beat someone in the CC this year (97th or so)? kidding!

as in memorable, does it need to be good? it's been a absolutely stinky year for our family (as in we're ready for this one to be over), but there have been one plus:

birth of our bouncing baby girl early august. she came out 100% healthy, and that was all i asked.

(all else wasnt great- I wont bring down the thread with the rest of it...)

Posting 47 BAD THINGS could be kind of a bummer though!

My memorable 2007 moments include:

--dropping 56 lbs

--my first ride at SART

--my first Thursday night ride at Fully

--In Moab last April, being the first one in my group to the bottom of Porcupine Rim. There were better DHers there, but even though their bikes were equivelant to mine, they were having to push/walk the few, short climbs and that's where I got ahead. First is first!!

Before and after pics of the weight loss:

Before, May '06 at 270 lbs

Present day, 215 lbs

47 bad things would be just a few over the amount.

jeez- i have zero pics of the kiddo.

moments that make our family want this year to end:
-dad's MTB wreck, air lift and 3 weeks in the hospital
-mom's cancer coming back at the same time- she's still undergoing treatment
-me throwing out my back while in great shape- still not 100% back 6 months later
-me losing my job and being unemployed for a month with a newborn and being the only income
-mom-in-law's surgery (foot reconstruction, then other knee due to overcompensation, now same leg as the foot for similar reason)
-the wife breaking her arm attempting to get back into mountain biking.
-the loss of a good friend due to still relatively unknown issues
-being sick the same time as the wife with a newborn for 3 weeks- imagine two people attempting to get out of a ny-quil (ny-kill in the original green death flavor!) haze at 3 am to feed/change a screaming kid.

please end, 2007.

ok, my negativity will end now. sorry to do this to the thread.

Thumbs up

just b/c for some reason I've been drooling about it latelly. back like 6 months ago (maybe more) I rode a dirtbike for the first time ever!! (thanks JEff) it took me like 40 minutes to finally get it going but after that it was like 40 miles (i think thats pretty crazy for a first timer right?) of pure sand, rocks and dirt!!! Ohhh mann!! that had to be one of the best time I have had in a long time!! and that's saying allot!!!

the trip to Kernville was also one bad ass mofo!! first time doing the White water rafting thing that left me asking for more!! hmm I have to do that soon
the one that really made it for me is finally passing the Kendo test (after almost 2 years). No more extra practice for a while really has me smiling!! (not that I'm practicing any less now in days lol)

ahh yes meeting abunch of cool ass pips on STR has also been cool!! I prob would have never run into most of ya if it wasnt for this site!! Thanks Allot Jorge!!

This is probably the first of many posts I will be putting on this thread as this year is full of so many amazing memories, filled with new people place and things that I would have never experienced without finding this site filled with so many amazing people that I am proud to call family... I call you family as you have helped me grow into the prson that I am today, having learned so much from so many. I have learned that with my mind set on the goal there is no limit to what I can acheive(think the Beeks Newbee Ride) Thought of that day still make me well up with emotion/Thank you Tracy and Brian, I will forever hold that day very dear in my heart. The way that everyone will take a little time out to support one another whether it is Justin taking time out to show me how to get through something, or it is Roger and Denmother having way more confidence in me tha I do and pushing me to come back and and race in Funtuckey(extremely out of my comfort zone) Take this past weekend where the whole tribe came together to support one of ours that was in need, We as a group were able to pool the resource and come together to create something magic, just look at the pics, everyone at Marks ride is smiling... I am thankful for each and every one of you that I come in contact with, and am extreemely greatful to call you my family... Enough of the mushey stuff I now return you to your regularly scheduled serving of smart @$$ remarks.

This was my first trip to Utah (riding) with some very special people...

And here is Mammoth during another amazing weekend

Thank you

The following may be my most memorable pics of 2007.

Our first Mammoth trip of 2007. Saw some STR peeps on the mountain. Our group consisted of Allison, HuckSpokes, Mechmann, CC.... What made it soooo special was the fact I was able to share the experience with two very close friends SPROCKETHEAD and Frankie (aka Ahimanic).

Sprokethead (aka Karate Monkey) preparing to ATTACK Frank

Technical difficiulties with the other two images. Sprockethead--- Post the pic of Yourself, Frankie and I posing for pics (in our DH gear). I need to RE-upload them!

I did have some bad experiences for 2007 but the good out weighs them by a long shot. Try to look on the brighter side of things even if they are negative! SlowSSer things WILL change for the better!!

-Co-worker introduced me to STR a few months ago
-Met some great folks through various rides. Some STR related, some not. Regardless, the cycling community is insanely friendly, not snobby, the list can go on. It's all about community and I love it!
-Lost some weight, dropped my blood pressure, and overall just feel better
-Purchased an I.H.!!
-Landed a great gig close to home
-Reconnected with family I haven't seen in years
-Met an amazing woman who truely knows what the word "reciprocal" means in a relationship (believe me, I have horror stories about this)
-Had the opportunity to meet her aunt and grandfather who both have cancer but the moments, laughter, and life advice are forever with me
-Discovered Blue Moon beer
-Discovered the joy of babies and children. Many of my
