Default Deja Vu

Started Mtn Bike riding all over again... One demo, a few days later picked it up at the factory on my way to Mammoth Mtn.

It's first ride, in the back of my trunk, a VW Jetta.

From the top of Mammoth Mtn. shuttle.

OK, busted, with my helmet from the 90's and my old hardtail.

First night ride with a night light... Lower Merrill, sunset ridge... I walked most of it.

From 255 pounds at the endo of september when I took to pedaling for my vertical instead of shuttling to 225 pounds in 6 weeks. Doing rides like this twice or 3 x a week when I can.

Things got tougher, with more vertical. Meet "Viper" with a view of Magic Mountain most of the descent.

Then things got real technical with scary with names like "Suicide"

Best part? My health is getting better, I'm getting better, skill set is improving, and it's all fun. Sweat, panting and pain are all fun when you are earning your vertical! Oh yeah, most Epic ride in my current 3 months of newbie pedaling? 5 weeks of riding and then doing Just Outstanding , Dutch Flat and Keyesville with Jeff Sherman, the Bionicon BBQ and the Over The Bars crew, with folks like "True Story" Otto, El Presidente, and the ever encouraging Kanga, who continues to amaze me with what he will ride up and then down.

It's folks like the ones above that give us newbies drive, hope, and lead by example that if you want it bad enough, you can do it. Just keep riding... as long as it's fun, I will.

My memorable moments have no pictures, they are in my head. What is in my head is great people, my kids, and a new day to find new joy. A frown is easy, a smile is more enjoyable!!!!

 1. Joining STR, making new friends and enjoying many great rides!
 2. No injuiries or surgerys.
 3. Racing in the Pro Women's class at Fontana and finishing 2nd overall for the year (at 51 years old).
 4. Getting Roger to ride new trails!
 5. Watching Roger walk away from several crashes unscathed.

Thanks Justin, lest we not forget this one:

I guess I will have to add another one to my list:

5. Watching Roger walk away from several crashes unscathed.

Forgot about that crash!
While CC's "Dead Sailor" (in Big Bear) was the scariest crash I have seen in years... The violent impact of Roger's (Mammoth) crash remains fresh in my mind!
Just glad he got up!

I have not had time to respond to sdyeti's post on this yet, but I could not let it pass by without some props. Non-teachers may not realize what a HUGE accomplishment it is to get both a Masters & National Board Certification in the same year.

National Board Certification basically means you're the best of the best of the best when it comes to education. How he found time to do all this and ride is beyond me.

Good job, my fellow teacher!!!

After 15 years of on again off again riding I got serious this year . I purchased older santacruz bullit for the chair lifts , a new rocky mountian element for x/c and a single speed & a road bike for training .I lost 30 lbs & lowered my cholesteral several points as well as my resting heart rate. My fully loop time went from an hour and thirty minutes to less than an hour .This summer ONELEGROLLEDUP & I rode the loop seven times on his birthday . I was introduced to STR by 1X1CLIDE who also told me about the twelve hour race at temecula . I did my first STR ride of many this year & my first race . I got introduced to real mountain biking.Because of you guys & girls my triatlete wife wants to take up mountain biking [she says you guys are more fun than the triathlete crowd] . This has been an amazing year , Im looking forward to meeting more of you guys at group rides & the races as I plan on doing the 12 hour series at temecula this year . merry christmas to all
