Default Anti-chafing products?

Damn, I might get flamed for this or someone else might get some indirect Home Depot torching for this one. I remember a thread some time ago about chafing but I don't recall discussions about anti-chafing products. Do any of these work? What works for you?

Chamois butter works well. I used it on the counting coupe last year and on some of the longer rides I go on.

I did some work for Beljum Butter earlier this year. They sent me a tube of their chamois cream and it seemed to work relatively well. I'm not an endurance racer by any means, but I can see how it helps. They were big on the fact that it was paraben free (no cancer worries).

Best thing I have found to help prevent the dreaded Monkey Butt is called Bag Balm. You can get it at most "Farm and Fleet" type stores. Comes in a green cube-shaped metal can. Even has a healing ointment in it in case you do rub something raw, it helps heal it very quickly. Originally used on cow udders in the winter time, it is making appearances in cycling magazines now.

And this stuff works well too. Got a bottle as a gag gift a few years ago but it really works!

Ghixon, that's a huge plus for me. I already lost three people close to me because of cancer. Scary....

Chamois looks pretty safe to use as well!

I hardly need butter of any kind anymore since dumping all my "old man" saddles that had too much padding and a dip in the middle.

aka Rocket V, Pure V, etc....anything with lots of padding. the padding ends up doing the chaffing.

i'm on Specialized Toupe now on all bikes...firm and flat. I've done up to 12 hours on it with no saddle sores. Some chaffing after that much time, but much much better than an old-man saddle with a dip in it.

Naw non of that stuff...sounds messy...just get more saddle time.

I wonder what kind of reaction you would get on the trail if you asked for some type of ass product....

Riding more definitely doesn't make it better for me

I may try using my Toupe on a mountain ride one of these days.. but I wouldn't want it to be a long-azz ride. That could get *really* painful.

Don't need it most of the time but if I do I break out the
Chamois Butt'r. I only use bag balm once in a great while after a race; when I have pieces of skin missing from my backside after a 24 hour solo.

Padre, I found the exact same thing and ended up on the same saddle, but mines in black. If you do a lot of long distance riding where you'll be on the saddle in excess of 8 hours I highly recommend Butt Butter. The stuff works really well for me. I also use Balmex (diaper rash medicine), but that's usually after it's to late, but helps to heal up quick. Like Padre said.....stay away from heavily padded seats, they will only cause you more pain and suffering.

I have gotten good luck with my Oakley inner lining...the Chamois is like a micro fiber so its super soft and is pretty thick padding wise, keep in mind I ride about 2x a week only so it might not be the greatest on long rides...
http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/155...ayer-Short.htm

its not cheap but get two and you can covert any shorts into riding shorts...

Assos is pretty good stuff too. It has a nice cool minty feeling. Makes me feel all tingly. I always use something on long rides.

I use the Specialized Alias on my road bike. It's pretty good. I only have minor discomfort after during long rides, >6 hours. My 145, 11 hour ride the other weekend wasn't too bad. I'm looking forward to trying my new Brooks soon.
