Really cool place but I'm surprised that the city or county would accept the liability issues that come attached to something like this. I wonder how they get around this issue??

They're not in Southern California.

Forgive me, but can someone explain the extent of these liability issues that a few have pointed out? Couldn't they post it as 'ride at your own risk', and have no liability at all?

Probably but any good lawyer would be able to get around it probably. I would think the only true way to get around it would be to sign a waiver....and even then a REALLY good lawyer could get around it.

The last 2 pictures show exactly why a city would have a difficult time supporting this type of recreation area. People still sue even though they knew it was a risky activity they were engaging in regardless of any signed waivers or "ride at your own risk". So rather than expose themselves to potential law suits, most cities probably wouldn't be eager to open up a bike park of this sort.

I used to live blocks from that bridge before the bike park, and it was a migration hub for druggies, crime and the like.

Damn, I really do stay out of touch for too long. Since the Volvo I had a black eclipse with bike racks and a lousy Honda accord. I dumped the wagon when I had to use a plank to keep the drivers seat off the road, the other cars simply lacked headroom. I have been pedaling everywhere since December and hitch hiking when convenient.

If the folks around here weren't so preoccupied on wringing every last cent out of our dirt the publics greater benefit would emerge as more of a priority. However until bikers can raise enough cash to grease the wheels in south county we are all at the mercy of the deep pocketed land owners.

I'm almost done with a 58cm Cannondale ST500 touring bike if you need a roadie.

Theres' also a dirt jump spot down here in plain sight that's been getting bigger and bigger.
