Look on the Jenson website. If it says "ships today" then it's a pretty good chance it's there. When in doubt, call the store. With a couple key strokes they can tell you if the shoes are there or not.

Right there with you on the destruction of shoes during the abnormal hike a bike I just did during the adventure race. I completely blue out the bottom of my shimano carbons on a 2 hour hike a bike.

Thanks for all your help everybody.

I drove to Jenson Corona and found the shoes. Actually, they had my size in every shoe I wanted to try on. I was very impressed with the store and the staff took the time to talk to me and answer every question. Even the other bike parts were reasonably priced and seemed fairly high quality.

I ended up with some basic Pearl Izumi shoes, which were on sale for something like $70. I was expecting to pay a lot more, but these shoes fit like a glove.

I'm considering buying a more rugged type of shoe for the rides where I know there is a hike-a-bike. There's no sense in thrashing a shoe when I don't have to.

Default MTB Shoes?

For those that don't clip in (no offense to the folks that do). What type of shoes do you use? I just ride with Crank Brother's 50/50s so I'm looking for a pair that won't break the bank. I'm thinking about $60-$80?

My experiment with platforms did not work for me. I have a pair of size 10.5 Five-Tens would sell cheap. Maybe two rides on them. Also Easton Platforms for sale.

If you want the best grip on a shoe, you'll have to fork out the money for 5.10's. I think Go-ride.com is having a sale on them? Last I heard a few local places were running low on stock, and not sure if they have become available again.

But, a shoe like the Shimano mentioned above, or even something like the 661 Session SPD is compatible with both platforms and SPD's if you decide to go clipless.

They are $50 and looks like they have your size available. 661 is local to So Cal so ground shipping is overnight.

But, if you wanna try shoes on, hit up the Path. They've got a great selection of 661 and Shimano shoes in store.

I ride clipped in on my XC and SS witha pair of Specialized carbon that I love, but I use the 661's on the Yeti and they are a great shoe I have yet to slip and they are comfy as well... I picked mine up..... you guessed it at the Path...;

Default I found these...

...at Helen's in Arcadia. Great selection and lots of sizes. They hike well and have SPD if you want it.
I ride half&half pedals and they work great un-clipped.

I have the same shoes, and they work pretty darn good, however I think that they are just a hair too big for me.

I do plan on getting some 661's in the near future.

It's a bit too far for you, but we have a lot at Beyond Bikes in San Diego county. At least 20-30 different shoes on the wall.

Doing some internet searching, the 5.10s and 661s are looking mighty tempting. The price point is decent as well. Anything is better than wearing my old Nike beat up cross trainers that are bald.

I had a pair of Vans on sale at a bike shop in Whistler, and it just isn't the same. I dunno how people comfortable wear those shoes on flats while DHing and don't slip. Justin was using the spd compatible, but covered, Shimano's, and same thing.

5.10's are just a different breed. The stealth rubber is all that.
