Default roof rack

who here uses a roof rack to transport their bike on their car? i am going to be in the market for a car soon, finally a nice car! well, i have one of those truck rack things now and it scratches up the paint on the trunk. So, do the roof racks mess up the paint on the roof? Are they easy to put on and tack off?

Depends on what you will be picking up. Most of the German MFGs (e.g. BMW, MB, Porsche), for instance, have built-in mounts for a roof rack eliminating any cosmetic issues.

I have had my Yakima king cobra for a year w/out any problems. I leave it on and lock the rack to the base so no one can steal it. the bike in the pic weighed 50 lbs. just slow down a little more for the corners. and watch out for low drive thru's I had one close call.

this was my ride with 2 bikes on and no problems, like slappy said, my BMW had hidden rails for mounting the rack. Works great and no damage to the vehicle, i've actually sold tha car so will be selling the entire setup if interested.

I use the Thule setup with V2 trays and Big-Mouth trays and love it.

Here's an older pic from when I just had the 2 V2 trays. I've since added 2 Big Mouth trays for the thru-axle fork equipped bikes.

When i was in the market I didn't want another truck or a big SUV so I found a Dodge Magnum with the factory roof rack and put on the Rocky Mounts
