Exclamation New Malibu Fire

Woke up, turned on the TV to see that Latigo and Corral Cyn's are burning. It's only 8:30 am and 35 homes lost already!

It might have started at the top of Corral at the parking lot. For those unfamiliar with the area there are excellent sections of the Backbone Trail right there.

I had time to do PV this morning and the smoke against the blue sky was an unbelievable contrast. I thought Topanga was on fire. Looks like the fire is slowing down.
I hate fire season!!

I can only hope the Kanan section of Backbone survived. That's some sweet riding.

Speaking of riding!! Here we go again. The doors are closed and the smoke is low here on the west side! Darn it. Will it be cleared up enough tomorrow to ride? Or just a burning sufferfest for the lungs!!

We saw the smoke from Mt Lowe today. It didn't look too big but then about 11:00 am the winds kicked up and the smoke plume got a lot bigger.

That really sucks.

Rode up at marshall canyon this morning (first time and all the jumps there were a lot of fun). The crystal clear views afforded a clear view of the smoke plume along with the whole downtown LA skyline. It was eerily beautiful, more eery though.

In related news, the house of Flea (bass player for the chili peppers) was torched in the fire.

I rode up kanan road on my borrowed road bike on thanksgiving day, and last I read that's where they set up to block the fire's movement.

but hey, at least we don't have a hurricane season, right?
