Default Again?

My wife and I were coming home from the Ducks game south on the 5 and saw smoke. Also a couple of fire trucks heading into the canyon. Anybody hear anything? It looks to be further south.

It's quite windy and there is a ton of dust and ash blowing up. I drove south through Santiago Canyon around 3:30 and it gave me flashbacks to a month ago. By the time we got to the Whiting area it was pretty thick, and the gusts are still getting stronger.

At first I thought it was fire too, but we saw no signs of anything actually burning (hope that hasn't changed). We also saw a bunch of trucks from CDF on the move, but no lights on. I suspect they are on alert, just in case.

The news said the ash was blowing around pretty good, so far no word of a fire.

The weather forecast says
Saturday: Areas of blowing dust. Sunny, with a high near 75. Windy, with a northeast wind between 25 and 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph.

Is anyone else thinking twice about riding in the dust/ash?

Had that thought myself. I certainly would avoid areas where there is major ash blowing. In OC, the lower areas of Holy Jim might be bad tomorrow, but I couldn't tell if it was really coming down over there too. I'd probably avoid O'Neill if the wind holds. And I wouldn't do a road ride in Santiago Canyon, though I saw a couple people out there anyway this afternoon.

Otherwise, if the ride isn't going to be someplace immediately downwind of a burn area, I probably wouldn't sweat it unless you're really sensitive to dust, etc.

you can see the haze from the dust tonight made apparent by car headlights tonight in Irvine and Aliso...must be really gusty through the canyons tonight because it's hella windy here in aliso

Gusts are getting strong here near Whiting. - probably 40mph+.

edit: Make that 50mph+ !

edit #2: Maybe 60mph ??

We went up Trab. Wash and up HJ to UHJ and back down...a little windy, but the air was clear.

I guess it was all the dust and ash blowing around.
