Well the campground was ok, hardley anybody there which made it nice. I didn't take my bike, just sat back and drank beers mostly. drove out to palomar mtn. saturday, looks sad bummer, my first time up there and saw half the mtn. burnt. I wish I could of been there before to see what it looked like.

I was out there with the family the day before the fires started. It was awesome. When I get home I'll post a couple pictures of the lake before the fire.

I know some trails are in the Santa Ysabel Preserve on the way to Palomar from Ramona/Julian. From the observation deck on the way up the mountain it seems to have some trails running from the NW corner of the lake to Palomar. It would be worth looking into if anything goes into the mountains. It seems pretty flat going East from the lake. If I had to guess I would bet Palomar has some trails. Not sure if they are any good.

Only trail I could find was the Nate Harrison Grade which sounds tough.

Here is a pic I took from the deck. Not sure if anything has changed in this picture since the fires.

the fire didn't get that side of the mountain, that part still looks the same. it was burned on the other side, I guess toward the state park. the observatory was saved though, that was kind of cool to check out. so next I go out i'll need to check out that nate harrison grade.

thanks

P.S. thanks for posting the pic, great view.

Did you see any roadies out when you went to the observatory? I thought they were nuts on the climb up with no shoulder or even a gutter to ride in. The ones doing the downhill were just as crazy. I bet they hit 60 mph in some sections.

I saw one guy on the way back down, he was hauling a@#. that was crazy and he was solo too . While on the way back from the obsevatory we drove into fry creek campground, it looked like a cool spot to camp. I'll have to go back out again for a night or two.
