Default RR The oaks is messed up.

I rode chutes this morning the whole area is different.
The single track looks like 1000 horses went threw it and ground it up. Most of the hard packed trails are now silty dusty ground up horse trails now.
The 1st B is a little more leveled out and it is a little easier to climb. I ran out of power are around 60% of the way up. Normally I hit the hump at about the 40% area and spin my tire.
They put a new gate in at the 3rd B . It does not mean it is closed it is just to keep cars out.
Some of the trails at the top look like they drove a fire truck through or something.
Sorry no pics . I left the memory card in the card reader. opps.

I was scouting for a place to do multiple runs to test a new bike but that place is a mess. The chutes are just ground up and slippery. It isn't that it is harder in fact it is easier in many of the areas. It is smooth and slippery at the same time hmmm. Check it out everything looks different.

Keep in mind that the winds last month blew all of the ash and sand into the Chutes. Yeah, it is dry and needs a good soaking.

I thought you downhill guys were all about "varied" terrain
I've been hitting Oaks a bunch and its a little dusty but its like a new trail now! I do agree on the B's, they are suddenly smooth and easy to ride, sorta!

Agreed. Rode 3B's, part of Weir, and out Chutes about 2 weeks ago. The 1st B was as smooth and "easy" (relative term) as I've seen it. What a change from a few months ago when it was loaded with sand! We hit the closed gate at the 3rd and didn't know what to make of it, so we descended and went up the "4th B" instead: That's a tough climb! Weir is super sandy in many places - almost made me wish I was on a YZ450 with a paddle tire. And Chutes is pretty messy with lots of loose spots and a couple that are just shredded by the combo of horses and skidiots. Like many of the popular area trails, the area needs some trail work and most definitely some moisture.

Default Santiago Oaks damage/ trails meeting

There is a trails meeting at Santiago Oaks Ranger Station on Monday Dec. 3rd if you would like to voice your opinion as to what they are doing or not doing to the trails in the Oaks...there is a group of concerned bikers, hikers and equestrians that have been complaining since the last meeting 3 months ago as to what is going on over there with the trail closures and the adding of contaminated dirt to the trails. If your interested in having your voice heard...come to the meeting!!!

Santiago Oaks Ranger Station
Monday Dec. 3rd 7m

STR made a great turnout at the last meeting....now we need to attend again and find out why nothing has happened except more damage!

As far as the trails looking like 1000 horses have traveled them...I can assure you that not many horseback riders go to the top and do chutes...if you ride there often enough you know that you don't run into them very often..they tend to stay on the lower trails.

See all concerned abou the trails at the meeting!

Where did that little face come from....it's suppose to say

7:00 pm

Sorry

Default Hello

The single track looked as if it where trampled over with a tractor or something. I agree the horses don't go on chutes much but some how it looks like something tore up the trail.
It looks like it started from the top. I live in Anaheim Hills so it has been my riding area for a long time.
I think after the first good rain it will wash the sand/silt away and become single track again.

Saw the ranger in the Mule driving down the 1st B as we were going up at around 1pm, but didn't notice evidence of it having been driven on the lower 4/5ths of Chutes (wasn't really looking for it though). Tons of hoof prints on much of the loop though.

As law abiding citizens, how are we supposed to know if we can trespass through the gate?? I rode there this morning and saw the closed gate. I thought about crawling under it, but knew better. If someone was going to hand out a ticket, I would end up getting it. We went down the road to the steep mother of a climb and over to Zipps.
This is actually pretty bad in my opinion. If they don't want us jumping gates into illegal trails or closed trails, they should at least open up the trails we are allowed to ride!!
