It looks like that is brake housing - is there a difference between brake and shifter housing?

most definitely- cable housing is designed for more constant pressure with one piece of "Wire" twisted to make the housing and brake housing is many "wires" twisted to make the housing- cut a section of both to see.

(i could be entirely backwards on the cross section...help, anyone???)

also, the cables themselves are different thicknesses- shifter is usually skinnier while brake is usually thicker.

edit: apparently you can blow out brake housing if used as brake housing.

Starting your thanksgiving celebration early eh slowSSer
Brake housing is the single coiled strand much like a compressed spring. The derailleur housing is the parallel multistrand with much less pronounced twist. The brake housing will deform more under compression which makes it lousy for shifting accuracy. The derailleur housing while more resistant to deformation, will blow out if used for a brake application. Not cutting a derailleur housing perpendicular to its length will leave uneven strands which can also cause blowouts.

Hehe, the only drinking I do are smoothies. I can't handle the taste or the effects of liquor. Watch those midnight feedings, I've been told not to let them get used to it. My little guy does the midnight thing off and on, but we try not to feed him unless it's the 5am wakeup. And the wanting to be held in the middle of the night thing .....
Ah the joys of parenting

Welcome to the club! Mine is 6 months and going through her first ear infection. That one kept me up every 2 hours all night for almost week! Coffee is now in my Camelback. Next step --- coffee IV drip, wide open.

You are about out of the woods too! Around three/four months they start getting easier and start smiling a lot more --- one smile makes your midnight wake-up call worth it.

Mine is at 11 months when he's starting to get needy and fussy. Often at the same time. He still makes it hard to sleep in on the weekends. At least he doesn't let me miss morning rides.

The avatar is a Kodama, a japanese spirit that's said to live in trees. It's depiction is from the anime movie Princess Mononoke.

I thought the rattling bobble head thing was hilarious.
