Default Mountain Lion Sighting on Blackstar

Just a heads-up...got a call from a friend who parked at the gate to go hike blackstar and there was a mountain lion on the road right on the other side of the gate eating out of a spam can...sounds like someone is leaving food out for it...her dogs chased it up the hill towards Baker...so keep an eye out!

With the fires burning so much, I expected the wildlife to crowd the surrounding areas, like Blackstar. Thanks, for the heads up, I'll ride there anyhow, but its good to be aware of whats happening.

I was wondering how far the mountain lions were pushed back due to the fires. I'm curious if they would wander back into Whiting even though most of it is gone.

Mountain lions will follow the deer. I don't think the deer will return to the burn areas until things start growing again. Its going to be crowded in the areas that didn't burn.

The thing that bothers me about the reported sighting is that the mountain lion was eating out of a can of spam. I got to look better than a near empty can of old spam.

I did this ride last Tuesday night and I plan on doing it again tonight, but at least this time I'll have human company. Last week I heard a lot of noise in the bushes and didn't really shine my light at it, because I really didn't want to know what was there.

Am I the only one here who thinks that certified lunatic Art would be the kind of guy to leave food out for them? I mean hey best way to keep the bikers away.

That Lion has been there for some time. I've seen it a few times about halfway between the gate and the turn.

Remember, you dont have to be faster then the mountain lion, you only have to be faster then the person next to you.

and stick a can of spam in someone's camelbak when they are not looking, enjoy your ride

**taking notes on who I should avoid riding next to on rides**

**another note, bring bungee cord to attach to the fastest rider**

bungee has some elasticity..you just need a tow strap none of the forward movement will be lost in the stretching of the tow strap

i hear the hot setup is to use a bungee and a piece of PVC. the PVC keeps the bungee from snapping against the lead rider.

i hope to race some MTB stage races in the future with allison, i know i will have to tether her to finish

From my experience the louder the noise in the bush the more likely it's a smaller critter...of course Bobcats are smaller to so go figure. It's how I get through some nights out in the park doing grounds work or repairing a sprinkler head with my headlamp on.

if i was smart, i would have. on the other hand, i thought that if i left it undisturbed, future visitors to blackstar could see the piece of history that has been posted on our forums.... kinda, sorta, maybe
